How do you stay Cool?

Really starting to heat up here in Vegas. I have found over the last few years the heat is getting harder and harder to handle.

 

I have found a hat that you soak and wear that seems to be helping alot. It is so hot that it dries out after a couple holes and then I re-wet it. Any other ideas?

I wear light shirts and drink water or something

I grew up in Florida and now split my time between Virginia and South Texas.

 

I drink lots of water and Gatorade (diluted by half with water), and I periodically wipe my face, neck and arms with a towel soaked in cold water from the water coolers on the course. This really works and helps keep me from getting so fatigued from the heat during a long round. For some reason, alternating Gatorade and water helps with the exhaustion too.

Down here in Texas it gets pretty hot & humid and on a hot day it can be miserable…

 

I like to wear dry fit shirts when I play…actually if you’re on a budget I found that the Target brand shirts work well for me…you can get them for about $13..

 

Plus I like to keep a small handcloth in my bag which I’ll soak with ice cold water from the water coolers on the course and apply it to my face and neck during a round…when the moisture evaporates it cools you down pretty well!

 

And of course…we all keep the cart girls in business…for me it’s either an ice cold classic coke or a fruit punch Gatorade….

My buddies and I have started buying powerades and freezing them the night before we play on hot days or take them to work and freeze them. After two or three holes they are like slushies. Give it a try.

I live in Vegas as well, and it has been crazy hot lately without any wind (which is rare).

 

The only advise I have is stay hydrated, but making birdies and pars seems to help the most.

 

However playing golf here in the summer is much easier than the Midwest.

haha yesterday I was playing at a tournament in NC, and considering I am a junior I had to walk. Well the temperature was somewhere from 88 all the way up to 94 we started at about 10 ended at 3. Well sure enough me being the IDIOT that I am buys just one gatorade and figured that I would be able to fill it up on the course. I believe there were four water coolers, and they all had nothing in them. So I played good on the front when I was hydrated (36), get to the back and i'm light headed, my bady is going numb, ears are popping, and I was getting dizzy therefore that second nine showed on my score (46!!) But w/e other kids had there parents come and there parents were smart enough to bring water or stuff, but considering my parents were packing for the beach and/or in penn. then I dont think I was going to be getting any agua. RIDICULOUS AND DANGEROUS

I do that with water bottles - the cycling type water bottles. The way I do it is to use two water bottles. One gets filled with water and frozen. The other gets 1/2 full with water and frozen. In the morning before playing, the 1/2 full bottle gets filled with water. This is the bottle for the front nine. by the time that I get to the back nine, the totally frozen bottle has melted enough to give some ice cold water, with some ice remaining to keep it cold.

 

On a brutally hot day, I'll also wrap them in paper towels. They will absorb the sweat from the bottle, and by the time that bottle is empty, it will give you something to keep saturated with water and keep under your hat to keep you cool...

In regards to gatorade and powerade, as someone mentioned, diluting them is the best option. A doctor recommeneded to me for every 1 gatorade/powerade, drink 4 containers of water, so a 1:4 ratio.

if it's super hot.....which i have yet to experience in Texas this season...........i usually soak my cap at the water cooler. and keep the club cleaning towel wet.

Go to Wal Mart in the auto section and get the 3 pack of microfiber towels and wet them with ice water and they stay wet a long time, after you use them, swing them in air and they will be cool to use again and again. great for the course!! and cheaper than the "golf" microfiber towels!!
