Tipping DG R300...to make it stiffer, but keep the weight

I'm not sure if this make sense, but..

 

I like DG R300 shaft for the look and feel. I like its thin~ look and how it feels in my fingers. ( i have small hands, i wear men's small cadet gloves). I'm not sure of the numbers, but i definitely find DG R300 thinner in my hands than DG S300.

 

Currently, i have two sets: nike blades with PX 5.5, and Bridgestone j33 cavity with DGSL S300. I kinda like the DG SL s300, but i sometimes find the shaft a little uncomfortable in my hands, and the thicker look of the shaft makes....awkward... I'm not a big hitter like some guys here, I'm 5' 8", and weighs around 150 (TMI?) I normally hit my 7 iron around 160~165, 8 iron for 150.

 

So, i've been tinkering this idea of getting DG R300 on my bridgestone j33 Cav, and tipping it a little to make it a bit stiffer.

 

Will i be able to achieve what i want? the thin shaft look and feel of DG R300, and a bit stiffer than DG R300 shaft?

 

I thought of NS pro 950, but it looks just as thick as DG SL. Haven't seen ns pro 1050 though...which is supposed to be thinner profie.

You simply could hardstep the R300's?

(I assume that the tips on the B33's is taper?)

The tip on the BStone's is taper, I suggest tipping the R300s, and as to your question about the Nippons, if you like a light shaft stick with the 950, as it's light and more responsive than its big brother. As to the girth of the shafts, if it really bothers you just stretch out the shafts about an extra 1/2" It'll think it out nicely.

If the irons you have (Bj33's) are taper tip hosels then I would not tip trim as they will not fit properly into the heads ..... better to hard or soft step as the case may be... R300's are 580 butt whereas S300's are 600..... I'd hard step them and you will get the desired effect!

I am almost convinced to go with the hardstepping r300. I bought a mizuno mp-60 with DG R300 for a friend of mine, and i just love the 'thin' shaft in my hands a lot. But it is a bit soft flex, as i tend to send balls little bit toward the left.

 

One last question, Would this (1 hardstep) be same stiff as DG SL S300? or still softer?
