healing times and what to do?

I have been suffering mightily in my hands and fingers after a couple rounds of golf and time on the range. I just bought a new set of irons (MP60s) and had tour velvet put on (versus the corded grips I had), but haven't played with the new clubs yet...pain is still too intense. I have a few swollen knuckles and my hands feel bruised between the bones, like I was holding a jackhammer or something. I have been eating Alleve like it was pez candy, using an ice pack, compression wraps and elevation. Also started taking fish oil supplements based on research showing their benefits versus arthritis. I swear, the computer mouse even aggravates this condition, I think. Anyone have any suggestion on what they have done to cure/fix/alleviate what I think must be tendonitis? thx

any type of itis, your joints are inflamed of course. I would recommend taking a break for about a week or so to let your joints recover. Also, check your grip, it could be causing the pain. I should know, my body is basically arthritic, I had an improper grip last year which caused aches in my wrist and knuckles with the amt of tension.

 

If youre not going to take a break, drink plenty of water, cut back/out on the sodas/pop.

Doesn't sound like tendonitis, more like arthritis. I currently have tennis elbow in the right elbow and a touch of arthritis in the hands. I have taken fish oil daily for the last few years not that it helps the arthritis but for the omega 3 benefits. For arthritis you may want to look into some glucosomine condroitin. Another thing might be to go to softer grips. winn makes a good one. and kiddingly loosen your grip :)

I had tendonitis in my elbow last year and it took months of work in the gym performing the rehab exorcises to make it go away. Now both my wrists are killing me since I started playing golf again. I was to stuborn to go to the doc, I knew what he would tell me. No golf, no lifting, and worse yet no work. Not going to happen. I hope it works out for you.

saw the doctor, had x rays taken...no sign of arthritis so it must just be an injury...taking a non steriodal anti inflamatory prescription and been told to lay off the golf. Right....after spending about $1500 on new clubs? I'll just wrap it and dull it with topical analgesics and maybe try that capsazin stuff to deaden the nerves. I can heal over winter, eh. :)

I had the same problem, my doctor took a blood test and said nothing really seemed wrong. After thinking about it I think my problem stemmed from hitting shots off of those awful astro turf mats at the driving range. I can pretty much hit balls all day off of dirt, but one bucket off of those mats and my hands hurt for 3 days.

I even have cushion shafts in my irons, which I think help as well, of course graphite shats in the irons help too, but if you like steel get sensicore shafts or something similar and it helps reduce the shock.

see the DOC... seriously one of my normal golfing buddies is 74..he thought he had normal arthrtis too.. nope it's gout which is related to his uric acid build up.

I've read that the Dual Durometer grip was awarded some distinction by the Arthritis foundation for being the best for arthritis suffers. I might look into regripping my brand new clubs--of course that grip was an option when I ordered them and I went with the tour velvet, before I injured myself hitting it fat and squeezing my cord grips too hard. drat.

 

my doctor said my situation is not gout. My cooking has given others gout, though.

I know this is going to sound weird but my chiropractor has helped my hands immensely. I used to have major pain in my left middle finger when golfing and he describes it as somewhat of an arthritic condition. He adjusts my wrist and actually works my fingers to help keep them loose and it has helped a ton. He also has me taking fish oil caplets on a daily basis to help keep my joints lubricated and it seems to be working quite well. I've had this chronic pain for about 5 years now but with his help, it's gotten much better ;)

I jacked my hand/wrist last year in a similar fashion and switched to a diiferent grip and graphite shafts and now I have no real problems.
