Homer Kelley's Book

Has anyone read the Homer Kelley "Golfing Machine" book? If you have, could you please give me some ideas or basic principles of what he teaches or "preaches".

The "yellow book" is NOT your normal golf swing "how to" type book. It was written as a manual for Golfing Machine instructors. It is almost unreadable unless you are familiar with the terms and parlance of The Golfing Machine. Honestly.......for someone to offer a "basic principle" of the Golfing Machine seems impossible to me.

My recommendation is to spend some time at Lynn Blake's forum and Brian Manzella's forum. Possibly some other members here that are a lot more familiar with Homer Kelley's ideas can make other recommendations for learning about the Golfing Machine.

A warning however......it is really easy to get hooked on trying to understand Homer's ideas.

Homer basically breaks down the golf swing into different components and tries to establish a common vocabulary for variations of those components. It's more about creating a common framework for instructors to communicate about the golf swing then a golf instruction book. It reads like an engineering book therefore many non-technical types don't care for it.

If you read the book, it is quite apparent that it influenced many modern instructors - even if they are not part of The Golfing Machine system per say.

I agree.

However, if you were going to break it down into it's most basic form - Kelly states that you have to have a flat left wrist at impact, trace a straight plane line, and lag the clubhead. There are an infinite number of ways to get there. Some of them work better together than others.

That's the extent of my TGM knowlege. I'm a student of Manzella. I just do what he says and don't know anything (or want to for that matter) about flying wedges, pressure points, etc. Really, TGM is meant to be a guide for instructors and IMO, it is probably a detrimental book for most people to own. Too many people get caught up in all of the minutae of the book and forget that the point is to get the ball into the hole in as few strokes as possible.

Its all about

1. Hinge Action , controlling the clubface,

2. Angular Motion,( Lag , Pressure point, )Controlling the CLUBHEAD.

3. Plane Controlling the Club shaft .

And the most important words by Homer Kelly.

Mechanics Produces ... FEEL Reproduces Mechanic...

This is NOT just a simply book if you want to learn a golf swing, Its a book for people who wants to understand how a swing mechanic works. what are the available choices and how its Reproduced by feel. Therefore its a complete geometry physics book

HOWEVER , its very much lacking in a Model explanation, Or biomechanics. That is up to the knowledge of the Authorised Instructor. Therefore you still need an Instructor to Apply.

From difficulty bending a Firm shaft , Now finding a X shaft very soft , starting to feel X shaft Tipped getting soft. As knowledge improves.

From Powerless Effort, To Effortless Power

That is the power of understanding The Golfing Machine, JOIN THE CULT ... !
