Bag set-up Mid-High handicappers

Driver (BB Fusion 10.5deg)

4 Wood (Bridgestone 16deg)

4h (Cleveland 588 Altitude)

5-PW (Wilson C200)

52deg and 56deg (Bombtech)

 

Most clubs in my bag scream out forgiveness, and are there to get ball in air. The bombtech's are about to get shunted and replaced with a 50cbx and 56 in something else.

 

If I could find, I would happily pop a Cleveland 588 Alt 5h in the bag over a standard 5 iron.

I am currently about a 15-17 handicap.... Set up is this so far

Driver... Callaway XR 10.5 degree set to Neutral and Regular Flex Graphite shaft

3 Wood... Adams Tight Lies (hate it so looking to replace)

5 Wood ... Callaway X 18* Regular Flex Graphite Shaft

 

4i - AW (Taylormade Rbladez irons)

SW... Callaway X forged 56* (8 bounce)

Putter

Ball... varies because experimenting to find right fit

 

The irons are stronger lofted

4 iron ...20*

5 iron ...23*

6 iron ...26.5*

7 iron ...30.5*

8 iron ...35*

9 iron ...40*

PW....... 45*

AW ..... 50*

 

Haven't yet found any Hybrids that I can hit better than traditional irons... gaps are to close with the 4iron at 20* and the 5 wood at 18*.... to carry a 19* hybrid as well so contemplating options such as removing 5 wood and putting in the 19* hybrid and a get a lob wedge....

I am a little late to this conversation seeing how I never really paid attention to stuff like this until I started getting older. I have been losing club head speed now that I am 57 yrs old. I play to a 8.2 hdcp now was a 5.3 2 yrs ago. So this year I started messing around with clubs. Took 3w out of the bag increased the driver loft to a 10.5. I play more traditional lofts 4i 22* 185yd - PW 46* 125 yds. Choke down PW 115 yds. 52*, 56* and 60* I only use the 60* for sand and deep rough to get out of trouble and the occasional flop over a bunker where I am short sided ( usually doesn’t work out well ) I went to a 4w 7w set up instead of 3w 5w that was a huge game changer for me. 7w is great out of the rough flys about 190-200 out of the rough and 205-210 from the fairway.

My index is 13.9 with 170+ mph ball speed.  I like stout graphite shafts for minimal deflection and joint relief, but forgiving clubheads.  Opted for two additional 8 irons with progressively jacked lofts instead of 6 and 7 irons and then hybrids instead of 4 and 5 irons.

My goal is consistent yardage from each club and consistent gaps between them. I keep playing with the top of my bag as I am trying to get the longest easy yards I can. I have a few 3 hybrids, a 5 wood and just got a 2 iron. My 3 wood should be here next week.

 

I'll stuff my bag full of balls and see what shakes out on the course.
