Going to The Players in May, any advice or tips?

On the verge of booking a trip to Florida and talked the wife into going to The Players on Thursday or Friday. Any advice or tips from those who have been there? We were gonna get grounds passes, do you suggest getting a parking pass too? Never been to a PGA event before, so looking forward to it.

I heard a lot of parking nightmare stories when I was there last year on Tue/Wed but nothing that I would consider out of the ordinary for a PGA event (hear them every year for the Quicken Loans). My wife and I ended up staying at the Marriott for one night and it was really worth it. Didn't have to move the car and walked right to the course both days - it really couldn't be easier. Plus there was the added bonus of seeing players in the hotel which was pretty cool.

I would suggest getting a parking pass early, they tend to sell out the closer you get, then you will have to take the shuttle. If you're coming from St Augustine the traffic isn't too bad, I would say give yourself an hour but it shouldn't take that long if you're early, later in the morning can get busy so it really depends on when you want to get there. My favorite spot is on the range, the players are up close, but no seating so it can get old standing around. I always go on Friday's, you can see whoever you want before the cut, plus the crowd is much lighter, makes it easier to get around on site.

Good stuff. I actually did the same thing in May, 2012. I forget exactly what I did for parking but I drove up from Orlando the day before and ended up parking in an open gravel lot close to the 17th. This of course after my GPS took me to the front gates and security house lol.

You really can't go wrong with this tournament. We had a great time and had reservations at this spot after.

If you end up there on Sunday, put on your best.

+1 on the parking pass.

I go every year and my favorite place is on the left side of 16 near the green. You can watch players approach and putt out then make the walk to 17 and you have a pretty good view of it as well.

The range is also worth visiting if you get there early enough, but I'm a fan of watching them warm up more than playing.

Our trip will start in Orlando. Wife has a thing for Gavin Rossdale, so we're gonna see Bush at Hard Rock Live the Tuesday before. It's all good though, I have a thing for Adam Scott and iconic golf courses, so we're even.

This.

It is fun just to sit behind the green on 17 and watch the balls coming in. If you plan on doing that, bring a towel or blanket to sit on.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

I live here in NE FL and grew up in the area. My office is actually right next to general parking. My advice is definitely get a parking pass and plan to get there early. The traffic gets absolutely dumb around here, our office actually closes that thursday-friday the traffic is so bad. Any specific questions feel free to PM me as I dont check the blogs all too often. Thanks!
