Good courses near Groton, MA

Hi everyone,

Since last season ended, I had a hectic off-season. I recently moved to Groton which is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Boston. I was wondering where are some courses that are about a 30-40 minute drive from where I live right now. I've already driven by Groton Country Club, which is about 5 minutes from where I live; but I was wondering if there are other courses that aren't too far from Groton where I could also play when this season starts.

I played once at both Butternut Farm GC and Stow Acres CC last fall. Both pretty good runs at fair price.

Red Tail is possibly my favorite course in Massachusetts. Shaker Hills is also a very nice facility with a very good golf course. Stow has two courses, but imo neither come near the level of Red Tail or Shaker. Butternut is an interesting course, very tight, making it very different from the other four courses mentioned, usually very well maintained. A little further away is Cyprian Keyes, a target golf style course.

You're not far from Butter Brook in Westford which is a nice layout. The front nine is tree lined and fairly tight. After the turn it's much more wide open.

I recently moved from Chelmsford close by. I love a great challenge and would often play ButterBrook in Westford, I love Red Tail but play there when I can find the deals. Sometimes the conditions aren't the best so when they charge $100 to play, it's frustrating!!! I have never played Shaker Hills but I hear nice things. I would avoid Groton and Chelmsford CC as they are goat tracks!!! Trull Brook in Tewksbury is a boring course.

Overlook in Hollis, NH is a fun course but play in the afternoon when the twilight rates happen. It's a fun $40 course but an overpriced $65 course if you get what I mean. My favorite go-to course for value was always Green Meadows-Jungle course in Hudson, NH. It's nearly 7k yds from the tips but doesn't play that long. After 2pm it's like $29.00 to walk 18 holes!. Now do NOT play the Prairie course as that sux badly!

If you are looking at a private club, The International is probably the best value.

Gee - you're 2.3 handicap - so you play often and probably are looking for a club to join - doesn't get much better than Vesper....

and the range at Kimball Farms in Stowe is pretty good....
