When we do this we usually of layers of games going on. For instance:

8 man team game

multiple single or partner games

Skins everyday

KP's everyday

Informal betting with groups

So in you case I would have two 8 man teams each with a captain. Pick teams.

Day one - Two man best ball. 1 point per match

Day two - Singles Match play. 1 point per match

Then add all the other games along with this.

We do 12 guys up to Bandon, and play Ryder Cup style.

Three rounds of 2 man best ball. Last round singles.

We have Pot Skins for each round. A Stableford running in the background, just so everyone can keep playing their ball, and whatever side games in each foursome.

We use the Golf Game Book app. for the Ryder Cup points and stableford points.

We tried this last year and the two worst golfers ended up paired together and we didn't have real handicaps. It didn't work out well on the money and made some guys mad.

Well, if you have real disparity in ability amongst your group my recommendation would be to split the field into A players and B players before drawing partners, but it really shouldn't matter at 100% net. And it's hard to run any "net" competition if you don't have real handicaps or at least a fair representation of each player's potential.

Even so, the daily adjustments should level things enough to keep things competitive throughout. I'm very curious about the objections/problems you experienced. It's literally the first complaint I've heard, though not uncommon for those who don't prevail to complain, even if their objections are erroneous.

Part of the problem was that even with a higher net score guys were scoring more points then others with lower net scores.

Thanks for the response, and it's a good point, but should be obvious with the "modified net stableford" system that birdies & eagles are highly rewarded, be they gross or net. A player who plods along conservatively making net pars and bogeys won't get the benefit of the extra points awarded for birdies and eagles.

In the end it's an alternative scoring system that allows for dramatic leaderboard swings, and with the daily hc adjustments, keeps guys in it til the end.

I've been using this for trips for over ten years and my guys love it. We play typical gross/net in our regular games every other week of the year, so the change-up is welcome on the trip. I've never had the complaint your guys gave.

You just need to tell the sore losers to get out there and make some more points! ?
