Best +/- 115 gram graphite wedge shafts ?

Recommended Posts

Have tried 125 Steelfiber and liked it but a bit too heavy. Didn't like the 110 steelfiber as much though I can't explain exactly why.

Would like to hear about any great feeling graphite wedge shafts in the 115 gram range. Especially those which may be less well known than Aerotech Steelfibers or UST/Mamiya Recoils.

Thanks.

ust mamiya has a new dedicated wedge shaft this year which is around 115 g. It is called recoil proto wedge in f3 flex. Also in f4 flex but that is heavier weight.

The Steelfiber i110 is very butt heavy. It's easy to end up with a swing weight that's way too light if not properly installed. And even when swing weighted properly, it actually increases the total weight of the club by 7-8 gm - making it play more like a 118 gm and not a 110 gm shaft.

Have you tried the recoil 110? I certainly wouldn't dismiss it just because the steelfiber 110 didn't work out.

I havent' seen it available yet anywhere but Aldila has a Rogue Tour 115 gm shaft that's coming out. The discontinued Rip iron shafts had a 115 version but it was very tip stiff - some might like it but I noticed most people prefer the wedge shaft a little softer.

There is a 115 gm version of the GD Tour AD iron shaft.

The Matrix Program F15 120 is 117 gm for stiff, 115 gm for reg (and 119 gm for x-stiff).

The Fujikura MCI wedge 105 is 108 gm (as a wedge shaft it has a short uncut length so equates to a heavier parallel iron shaft)

You could try dedicated ATTAS wedge shafts. I like them a lot. Super stable.

But my all time favourite is still UST IHS-991 Proto.

1W: JBeam Glorious / Attas Coool 7s 3W: Alpha V5 Hi-Cor / Attas3 7s 5W: Tour Stage X-FW / Attas3 7s 7W: Baldo Magma / My Attas 7s 5H: Cobra F8 / Attas 100s 7H: Cobra F8 / Attas 100s 8i - GW: Maltby TE / Attas 10s SW: Fourteen DJ-303 (54) / UST IHS-991 Spin Wedge LW: Callaway PM Grind (60) / UST IHS-991 Spin Wedge Putter: Slighter Redmond Copper

Thanks for the offer but I am having some luck with the 115 recoil wedge proto f3 shaft in my 54 vokey. Also trying a recoil proto f4 125 8-iron shaft in a black 58 S grind. Need some additional grinding on the sole before this club will suit me but the shaft feels good and plenty of heft.

Also having some good practice sessions with my new oil can low-bounce K 60 from wedgeworks. The shaft I selected to avoid up-charge was steel... kbs tour stiff 8 Iron. I think this is around 120 gram shaft and feels very good. Probably need vibration damping insert in this since there is alot of repetitive shock that comes with a few hundred pitch and bunker shots per week. Avoiding injury is why I switched graphite shafts a few years ago.

There is alot of customizing possible with wedges and getting it all figured out can be worthwhile. So I'm having a good time working through all that stuff. Going with a thinner grip on my 60 than the other clubs seems great for greenside shots but not so much for full 80 yard shot. So i need to work on partial shots with my 54. Would be simpler to use the same shaft in 54 and 60 but I'm inclined to not keep it simple !
