So the season has started...do you still like your new clubs???

Made a whole bag switch (except putter) this year. Big thing for me as I don't change often (though I've tinkered w hybrids and wedge lofts... and driver, I usually end up back where I started).

Old -

983E driver

904F 3 wood

913H 19d hybrid

Callaway Prototype 4-PW

Scratch Wedge 53

Titleist Vokey 59.07 circa early 2000s

New -

816 DBD 9d Driver

816 Alpha 14d 3 wood (set @ 16 for course optimization, so maybe a 4 wood?)

913H 19d Hybrid

Cally Apex Hybrid 23d

Titleist AP2

MD3 52 d

MD3 56 d

PM Grind 60

Basically switching from Titleist woods and Callaway irons to Callaway woods and Titleist irons. Flip flop. Digging it so far.

  • The 983e and 816 DBD profile pretty similarly to me, but the DBD is a little longer on misses, maybe? First Driver to de-throne the 983 for me.
  • Really liking the AP2s. Very workable and good feel. A little shorter than my Protos - but am comfortable with them. Long irons flying higher than I'd like maybe... going to keep an eye on.
  • Apex hybrid is awesome. Held off getting both because I wanted to test one out first - will be picking up a second shortly.
  • Wedges are a work in progress. Like them all, but will play with gaping. Wasn't sure going into the season about how the new hybrids and new low irons would fit into that part of my bag and how to gap the wedges from the AP2s. Am thinking I'll keep 4 iron and switch to a 52 MD3 58 PM2

Been a fun season of change so far.

i generally like new clubs especially the i-was-told-it-was-a-tour issue, usually 'til i see another one on the BST.

that said, here's how i'm doing w the new sticks:

1. driver

been sticking with Flex 440 with all experiments with R15 and M1 430 'failed'. having shifted the direction i do like new-to-the-bag S-Yard t380 on a feel-like-small day & XR 16 Pro. really liking XR16, switched the adaptor of the Nike shaft, Fujikura Six Tour Spec. experiment will go on with a heavier shaft, Grandura 570.

2. 3W

tested a few: M2 T3 Deepface, XR16 and etc. none worked. decided to stick with Vega RAF 04. can't beat this s*** except an occasional blast of the old faithful Adams Superspeed XTD on a lil-faster-swing-speed-wont-kill-my-back day.

3. wedges

finally finished all discontinued Scratch 8620 full set: 47, 52, 26 & 60 ditching long-time-favorite Fourteen MT28's. and LOVE 'em. the best wedges hands down.

yes i still do like my new clubs, yet.

Very happy.

New: 714 AP2's - Absolutely love them and they just inspire pure confidence

Callaway Apex 3H - Again, pure confidence

Srixon U65 2i - This is the only one I am feeling eh about. I want to reshaft from the Miyazaki stock shaft. Perhaps a i95 steelfiber or S300. I want more control from it off the tee and a more piercing ball flight for more roll this summer.

M2 3 wood - It is okay but feels too upright. I have a fitting and will likely have it bent 2* flat

52* and 56* Vokeys - Nothing to say here

Old: Callaway X2 hot driver

TM Kia Ma blade putter

Overall I am super happy with my purchases which started in October. I have my first real pro fitting on the 26th so I will get my gaps all dialed in.

My set of JPX900 Forged our on the BST right now. Moved to a Srixon combo set. My wedges are changed as well. Woods are staying but am looking for new shafts however. Driver is set with a new Rogue shaft. I'm sure things will change again....maybe not....but maybe.....absolutely! :swoon:
