9 hole totals from my last round

I'm an idiot.

At least I know there is some potential for me, but this was one of the most frustrating experiences I have had playing the game.

I'm sure this has happened to a bunch of guys out there. It was just hard because I know you are supposed to take it one shot at a time, but once I got through the front, I couldn't stop thinking about breaking 70. I 3 putted the 10th and rode my round into the toilet from there.

SNAP! i played today, -1 for first 8, +15 for last 10. i could be a scratch player, but just get scared of going low.

Honestly, just finish the hole, write your score down and go to the next tee. don't think "Ugh, now i need a birdie..." or "Just keep it up, dude..." or anything like that. it is hard, but try your best not to get discouraged or cocky during your round. the last round i played at the local muni, i shot my best ever there, an 85, while doing what i said above.

 

DO NOT ADD YOUR 9 HOLE SCORE UP!!!!

 

wait til you have sank that last putt on 18, then add it up. i can almost guarantee that you will do better every round if you do this.

i agree with not adding your score up for the front nine... you will know if you are shooting well without adding up the score...

The first time I broke 70 was very nerveracking...I knew EXACTLY where I was score wise even though I was not consciously trying to keep it in my mind. I have gone on since then to break 70 several times, but have gotten no lower than 68...that's my new "70". for me, the key is to keep being aggressive and try to keep playing the game that got you to 3 under on the front. And if you make a bogey you simply cannot put the pressure on yourself to have to make a birdie, but just trust that you can do it. It may not happen the next time out or even the time after that, but eventually it will and as they say the first time is the most difficult...you just need the confidence to know you can do it and that will come, but in the meantime quit worryign about it and just go play!!

I shot 34 47 at one course i had never played before. i actually hit the ball decent on the back nine, but the wind picked up and my game started to go away, soo frustrating

I did the same thing in a junior tournament last week. except i shot 33-39 72 for even. I blew up on the back three putting on 17 from 6 feet. :beach:

know your pain. OH and it didnt help that i bogeyed a hole from 60 yds in.

It really doesn't matter what level you are playing at. I am a 15-16 hndcp. A few weeks ago I went out in 42....now I start thinking that breaking 85 (That's my "number") is possible. I come in at 52. I totally lost it because the number was in my head.

 

The next week I just played for bogeys and pars and shot 86 without any effort. It's all in my head. My head is my biggest swing problem!

on the contrary...i've shot 47-36 and 48-35 in consecutive rounds. crazy frustrating.

i much rather would shoot 47 34 than 34 47 cause it shows i didnt give up after shooting a score that high

How about 36 on the front and 54 on the back. I did that one once when my girlfriend told me that she wanted to break up with me on the 9th hole and left the cart and walked in. This was back in the 80's. Today its very funny to think about. But 20 some years ago, it was a real ego buster.

but hey man you still shot 77, thats not bad

but it always sucks when you go out really well and then mess a few things up coming back in

In the first AJGA event I ever played I shot 46-33 (this was 11 years ago). I didn't make a par until 12.

No offense, but that doesn't work and never will. If a regular Joe shoots 33 on the front, and has a shot at under 70, he knows exactly what his score it at the turn.

 

You just have to treat the back nine like any other day. Of course you know exactly where you are score wise the whole time...how could you not? Embrace the pressure as another learning process. No sense trying to pretend its not there.

You're going to know where you stand. Just concentrate on one shot at a time. Easy to say, hard to do.

its not enjoyable though is it, i mean when youve got 9, 8, 7 holes left and its going so slow and you just want to get in with the score you've got. i spose it gets easier over time?
