Wont watch Foley but have actually enjoyed Cameron McCormick's first couple of episodes. This weeks was about simplyfying hitting a fade/draw.

 

For me, I found him really easy to listen to.

Can't remember if anyone talked about this -- I think someone did -- but I just listened to David McLay Kidd on NLU. He built the first course at Bandon and helped plan out the whole property. It was pretty interesting, and definitely will get Abb's jimmies -- and other parts -- tingling. (also, to Abb. . .if you haven't read the "building bandon dunes" book, amend that before you go.)

 

When McLay first showed up, he was like, "if you want it to be links, you can't put the club house near the ocean because that's where the golf course goes and you can't have carts because that's not golf.."

 

He figured he was basically saying, "I guess I'm not getting the job".

 

Then, Keiser called him a couple weeks later and was like, "were you serious?"

 

He talked about how he figured Keiser would bring in a Jack Nicklaus, or something and I threw up in my mouth a little. I can't think of a worse combination.

DMK is a great follow on Twitter. Good episode. Didn't know he had done the Castle Course in St Andrews too.

 

Had hoped to get out to Sand Valley this summer to play Mammoth Dunes.

2MT actually just recommended that I give the DMK pod a listen. I started listening to some golf pods a while back, and then gave up a bit. My drive to work is like 10-15 minutes, so it just feels so choppy taking 4'ish sessions to finish a single pod.

In his book, "Basketball and Other Things", Shea Serrano has a chapter called 'Most Disrespectful Dunks in NBA History".

 

He now has to rewrite the chapter. I mean, this is it, right? This has to be the greatest NBA dunk of all time. It's better than the Pippen/Ewing dunk, the Mozgov.

 

It might not be better than the Vince Carter dunk because it's similar, but that guy was taller, but that wasn't in the NBA. But, this one was all motion all the way down the court. He starts taking steps like a high jumper before the dunk. I don't know. I like it better.

I still like the Vince dunk better, but man that Giannis dunk is savage. I love his approach to the jump. He sees the whole thing coming from a mile away.

As I said, it's a "disrespectful dunk list" and Kemp points at him after he dunks on him. Very disrespectful.

 

I love this dunk. Kemp gets the ball like 20 feet out and is just like, "OK, I'm dunking."

This is one of the most scientifcally impressive things I've seen in a long time. The launch itself is impressive enough. But then landing the two side boosters - side by side - back on their correct landing pads is really just hard to comprehend. Looks like the main core burned too much fuel during liftoff though and wasnt able to fire properly during the descent burn. Either way it is crazy to watch the landing shots.

 

The landings start @ the 28 minute mark.

I think I was talking to hoop about DMK and how after Bandon he had a drinking problem and his next few courses were super hard and most people hated them....then he got better and his courses started to get easier. Thought that was interesting.

Busted out the hybrid for a virgin run yesterday at Waverly. I actually tried to hit the junk range the day before but they were closed so I still hadn't swung it.

 

So, I totally topped it on hole 1, then topped it again, but I hit a wedge to like 12 feet and almost made the par.

 

I found it frustrating overall. By the end of the round I hit some straight shots with it, but I can not get past the feeling that I need to basically forward press the club like 6 inches to get it square. There's something not right when I can swing 12 clubs with my hands like this at impact. . .

 

 

and then I need to hit ONE CLUB with my hands like this at impact. . .

 

 

But, I hit some 200-220 shots with the ball coming down softly. On hole 8 at Waverly, I brid-brid to 95 yards and then hit 54 and one-putt birdie.

 

I was slinging some draws out there, too. Hole 3, I basically whipped one right at the creek, let it draw back and had 150 from the middle of the fairway. Then, hole 6, with a right to left wind, I basically started it at the OB right and slung it back over the first trap and had a wedge in.

 

But, I mean, I've hit enough golf shots to know what a square face, square path feels like at impact and when I do that with the brid, I get a pretty sizable draw. I'm going to have to hit a lot of dang shots with that thing to feel like I could trust it under pressure.

 

I tried weakening grip for a shot and hit a 160 yard slice OB.

Given your previous aversions to hybrids, I'm surprised you went with something that has sort of a more traditional hybrid profile.

 

Something like the Apex might really be the ticket.

The shape and size of the head isn't the issue. This might not translate in pictures, but it's all I could find. I don't know if I'm supposed to set-up/contact the hybrid like this (square face, but shaft leaning left and forward) . .

 

 

Or this. . .shaft exiting the frame "straight" but face wide open. . .

I don't know how I address the ball with it and I'm not going to start thinking about it or I'll mess it up. I hit my hybrids fine.

 

Stop the crusade against hybrids. TheCityGame won't sleep until he's ruined them for all of us.
