Serious question does anyone know how the Lamkin grips with the built in Arcoss sensors work? I ordered the clubs built without grips - and they included the Cobra Connect stuff anyway - 8 grips with what looks like built in sensors, 8 batteries and 6-7 standalone Arcoss sensors, the screw in kind. I guess they throw in the standalone ones so you can get your whole set linked up?

I like the Epic but still have the Red in the backup bag. I dont think many of them are kicking around but IMO it was pretty underrated.

It sits as square as any other hybrid I've tried and I like the adjustable weight setup.

Oh, I have three of them. None are usable due to the turrible removeable sole plate design that ends up with the sole plate bending/breaking every time you change/move weights.

You bend that plate every time you change the weights, who are you PQ?

I have my wife (read: City) change my weights to avoid that problem.

I noticed that when I took the stock shafts out of my Amp Cells and replaced them with Blueboards and a Kuro Kage Black, the clubs got a bit tighter for me. But I am not a long iron player by any means. Heck, I’m contemplating throwing a Blueboard in my 6 brid and giving it a go. Maybe a Whiteboard in that one, I don’t know. Diamana Hybrid shafts are cheap on eBay.

I'm looking at that Adams like, "that looks pretty nice at set up."

I played around with just putting the hybrid behind the ball when I got home and taking slow mo swings and checking face and path. I noticed that when I took normal address and thought the face was square, it was actually quite open. I'm not sure why that would lead me to hitting draws.

So you know what I did...put balls down on my putting mat, got my body into impact position and started hitting putts with it to get an idea of how the face should come through.

Not surprisingly to me, this was quite easy for me to do with a 4 iron, but the hybo is going to take some reps.

So I'm looking through the golf Digest equipment issue and one of the equipment testers (L) wrote, of the Callaway GBB Epic Fairway Wood, "it's a party coming off the face."

Now that's how you do it.

I love my titleist hybrid. My go to if I need a solid drive just put into play. I swing it like my 4 wood. No issues here. But I have seen many who can’t hit one to save their lives but can hit every other club out there including a 2i. It’s weird. I personally have a heavier shaft in mine, made all the difference for me.

I know we’re not supposed to question your knowledge of ball flight laws, but you do know one way to hit a draw is to open the face and then swing more inside to outside than the club is open? Google hit draw with open clubface.

Wait this sounds familiar...

Seriously this discussion begs people to watch the last episode that Cameron McCormock did.

If the clubface is closed to the swing path at impact its going to hook. There's no magic to it. Its not tour only players exlusive hybrid heads.

I'm aware of the ball flight laws.

I'm aware how to make corrections with my irons. That's basically all I ever work on.

Looking forward to more Hybrid Talk Thursday...

I was looking through the Golf DIgest and saw the ad for Super Stroke Counter Core grips. Anyone use them? In theory, they should quiet my hands a little.

Yes, I have multiple of them / stockpiled a few of the XL models. I have liked them since first install, but love it now. Whenever I use anything else or if the actual core falls out in the bottom of my bag and its basically a standard SS, I notice I am considerably less consistent on the greens.

One thing to think about is the current head weight of your putter. If you throw a heavy weight in the grip and have a light head to begin with, it will feel awful / be difficult to control

DC - Cobra includes extra sensors to finish out a full bag if you purchase a set of irons. That's a new thing for this year. Pretty good bonus if the Arcoss system is of interest. I didn't know they would throw in the Connect grips I felt you ordered a set without grips, but makes sense since you can have whatever grips you want thrown in the box uninstalled.

As for how they work, you have to download the Connect app and the sensors work through it. Open the app, throw your phone in your front pocket (supposed to be critical), and play away. I had a Connect grip on a King LTD last year and it worked well. I only used it a couple of times and never for more than driving distance. I think you might be able to look at some other stats too but never tried.

That's like asking Kent to google "Centrum Silver Discount Codes".

That's been my stock ball flight forever. If I just swing my swing like Arnie says, I will come into a ball about 6-8 degrees in to out with a face about 3-4 degrees open to target (or 3-4 degrees closed to path to think of it the other way). It's not an effective way to play golf. That's why the big hook is my miss.

When I set an iron up behind the ball, I set it square.

When I set the hybrid up behind the ball, it's open.

What I'm saying is that I don't know WHY setting it up open would lead to me hitting draws. It's something psychological, like I "overcompensate" for the visual cues I'm getting from the club head.

Here's the thing. . .the biggest difference between a hybrid and a long iron to me is how different the relationship looks between the TOPLINE and the FACE. It's possible I'm trying to put the top-line of the hybrid into the same orientation (visually) as the topline of an iron and that leads to a shutting of the face. What I need to learn is to "re-imagine" the face orientation.

And, the only reason I care to put in this much work, is yes, like Q said yesterday. . .when I get it all meshed up, I hit some GD beauts with the thing.

I'm exactly the same way. When I set the face a bit more open at address, it encourages a draw. When I set it a little more square to closed, it encourages a fade. Important to note that I'm talking about making these adjustments simply by twisting the face one way or the other with NO changes to the strength of my grip.

One of the big teacher guys here (Monty or iTeach or the beloved George Gankas scwamdow scuewshie) talks about using an open face to encourage you to over compensate through impact. It's the opposite for pros who are capable of more consistently delivering the head to impact the same as at address.

My first hybrid ever was called a Titleist Rescue Mid. They used to call them "rescue clubs" back then. I used to play with an onion tied to my belt, which was the fashion of the day. Anyway, the hybrid. . .I used to hook it. Then, hybrids came out in like 2002 and people were like, "oh, these don't hook like the old hybrids from 1999 do."

Top.H. . .speaking of iTeach. . .there was an article in the Golf Digest this month about that "Suri" guy and he mentions working with iTeach in the interview. I thought that was pretty cool.

Still remember the first time I ever played Rocky Point. My dad came to Baltimore for a visit and I hit driver-rescue to like 8 feet on the second par 5 on the back. Missed the eagle putt. I didn't get an Eagle until about 15 years later when I knocked one in from about 180 out on a par 4 at Forest Park with a CALLAWAY HYBRID!!!!

It's all one big cosmic joke.

I don't remember anyone saying it so if we already suggested this I apologize...

City have you looked at the Callaway X-Utility Prototype or whatever it was called from a few years ago? Wasn't it kind of like a driving iron but was supposed to have more forgiveness like a hybrid?

I know you are all in on the hybrid for now, but the Callaway should be a pretty cheap experiment by now

Edit: a quick search on eBay shows that they aren't as "cheap" as I thought but still seem to be under $90

yes, dagoose. That's basically what I have now in the 3-iron.

It's not sufficient for the type of shot I'm trying to add to my arsenal. I do believe that true hybrids are easier to elevate.
