I feel like in this diagnostic conversation about City's hybrid issues, I am the guy from Dell customer support asking him "Have you tried turning it off and then on again?"

Nah, that's Nerf with the "have you tried swinging it like a hybrid?" post.

You're the guy trying to sell him another desktop, when all he wants is to buy a laptop.

I will echo the sentiments on the 913H hybrids - great feel, flight, and look at address.

The key element that helped me to almost entirely eliminate hitting hooks with a hybrid was a stiffer overall shaft, especially in the tip section. Weight also made a significant impact. Combining that with a slightly out to in path produced a very neutral ball flight that, I’d argue, became more workable as I was able to still hit soft draws and fades.

I fall on the spectrum of opinion that the club head has significantly more impact than the shaft; however, in the case of the hybrid, once I found a head I was comfortable with, the right shaft made all the difference.

Dagoose. . .did you intentionally hyperlink "callaway" in your post?

I fixed something the other day by turning it off and turning it back on. Love that.

We also had a footswitch for a lamp stop working. So, I started taking it apart, and when the screw loosened a few threads, the button started clicking again. So, I screwed it back in a few turns and it was just like new.

So, I tell the wife, "oh, I fixed the footswitch."

And she's like, "nice. what did you do?"

I was like, "well, I opened it, and noticed it was shorted out across capacitor, so I desoldered the connections, replaced the transformer. . ."

This happened. . .

You're actually the guy selling a desktop to someone that has spent the last three hours on the call telling you he hates computers.

I do agree though that the 3i / 3h are different animals for different shots. I'm glad I kept both in the bag. FWIW though - for anyone - I dont think you necessarily need to shop for something with the "driving iron" label these days if thats the kind of thing you are looking for. So many of the normal iron sets or game improvement sets have 18-20* long irons that will make perfect driving irons. I feel like once they label it as such, they jack the price up even more because now its a "specialty club".

Example: Callway is selling the X Forged Utility Irons - what they market as their dirving iron - for $250.

But Rogue or Rogue X iron singles can be had for $112.50.

IF things go according to plan, the top of my bag is going to be Driver, 3H, 3I.

The 3H is 20.5º and the 3I is 21º, but the shaft is longer in the H than the iron. If I need to send a BB 220 up the fairway with 185 carry, nothing is going to beat the 3I.

I just don't use the 4W for much (especially at my home course). I don't tee off with it. There's a couple holes where I've used it to come into the green, but on those holes, I'm just as often at 215/220 (and currently have no good club for) as I am at 230/235.

City one question. You say you try not to use the top line of the club for alignment, but use the face. What does that mean. I have always used the bottom edge of the face(first score line) to align any shot. Is that what you are speaking about.

PS: tried but can't stay out of this Hyrid convo for as long as I could

yes, I definitely use the bottom of the face, but -- big BUT here -- I think that I'm still accustomed to "sensing" the whole club head. So, I still take cues from the topline. And, obviously, you can't see the club head at impact, but maybe there's just something "mystical" going on in my head.

Also, hybrid has some bulge and roll, so it's not quite as automatic to align at the bottom as an iron is.

Lastly, as I was saying yesterday, I FEEL like I'm getting the club back to square and something is off. I need to feel like I'm slicing the ball to get it to go straight.

I actually do want to be done with this, but Kent deserves respect.

I'm not even going to pretend I know how to hyperlink something from my phone...must be the site that did it

Gmen if you are using the free shipping as a tool to keep you from spending the $$ then ignore this advice, but I think if you call customer service to place the order through CPO and ask for Free Shipping most of the time they will give it to you.

Love the idea of Mac Dunes but it is so far from just about anything else. Hate the idea of playing one or two courses, packing and repacking, long drive, play another courses or two...rinse and repeat. Also though I'm lazy and much prefer hunkering down in one spot.

GTTh: Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, Old Course.

Golf Talk Thursday : Pick the top 3 courses you'd want to play on a Scotland trip.

Alright, so my wife and I are going to Scotland for 8 days in July. Planning on doing some serious touring around....spending a few days on the Isle of Skye. Got seats at the chef's table at the Three Chimney's one night....it's going to be sweet. I convinced her to play one round of golf with me...it's an opportunity she'll maybe appreciate since she plays a little here. Links golf in scotland, right?

Originally I made a tee time at Royal Dornoch. Then I started looking at the course, and the yardage from the red tees (6000), and the approaches (some opportunity to run the ball onto the greens, but a lot of the holes had bunkers preventing that) and cancelled the tee time. She wouldn't enjoy it, and that means I wouldn't enjoy it.

Decided between Moray Old and Castle Stuart, and showed her pictures of both. I would be cool playing either...probably would have preferred Moray Old since it's a typical links designed by Old Tom...but she picked Castle Stuart because of the views. Everything I've read says it's a very playable course, and since it's new, it has tee boxes shorter than 5900 yards. I think it'll work, so we locked it in. It looks very nice.

The other thing is that she's heading back after 8 days, and I'm staying 3 more by myself and headed to East Lothian for 3 days of 36.

Day 1: Cragielaw (am), Kilspindie (pm)

Day 2: 36 at Dunbar

Day 3: 36 at North Berwick

Now look, maybe North Berwick makes the cut for people's "You HAVE to play this course", but the other three certainly don't. I'm one of those people who hates things most people like for no good reason, and have no interest in playing something like Kingsbarns or the Old Course or...really even Muirfield (you have to bring a sports coat for lunch in the dining room and you only get to play Alt Shot in the afternoon (which might be fun with friends, but not strangers)....no thanks). It's insane how much more expensive those places are than what I have set up. I'm playing 3 days of 36 holes in scotland, and the golf is costing me $548 total. On top of the 60 GBP a night for a room at a bed and breakfast, rental car, flight, whatever...

It's a third as expensive as a comparable trip to Bandon.
