The reason some people THINK they are having success with the stack and tilt

I'm not a huge fan of the latest fad, stack and tilt. BUT, I see why a lot of people are feeling like they've found the golf swing holy grail.

I was with a friend at the range yesterday and he proclaimed how amazing the stack and tilt move was, and how much it helped him. He had me watch him hit a few balls and he HIT REALLY WELL.

Very crisp shots with the bottom of his swing arc occurring at or just after the ball. I hated to tell him but he wasn't doing anything radical. He had been so used to sliding back and forth thru his golf swing that when he implemented the STACK, he was actually just keeping his head still and behind the ball - something he though he had been doing all his life. Also, he had stopped sliding back-and-through, and had begun rotating. He looked like a golfer for once.

The sway/slide is so deadly to a swing because it causes you to bottom out in random places - and even worse is that guys can't feel that they are doing it. My buddy was finally in control of his weight shift and his body now rotated (as opposed to sliding)and his head stayed in the proper position. There WAS NO STACK OR TILT in his swing, even though he felt otherwise. I think many guys are just finally feeling what a normal swing feels like.

the VAST majority of people have simply eliminated lateral motion from their golf swing (which is a VERY good thing IMOP) and WILL strike it a lot better........I've yet to see a person who's "using S&T" who's actually doing what's described in GD, but, by attempting to do it they HAVE improved their golf swing by becoming more "rotational".........the golf swing is CIRCULAR in nature so ANYTIME you simplify/tighten up the INNER circle the outer "circles" will respond by becoming more consistent/reliable........as a result you'll strike the golf ball more consistently from the same "angles".........result is a more consistent impact and more solid contact.......(IF your fundamentally sound and are set up properly)........so I've reached the same basic conclusion you did.......

And I think the two S&T guys acknowledge that point. They say that people need to exaggerate the movements, simply to get to the normal place they ought to be. I think a lot of American golfers enter the sport with a big flaw -- the baseball swing that we grow up with. In baseball, you keep your COG well behind the point of contact; the entire body is tilted back. We pick up a golf club and do the same thing -- disaster.

I am exhibit A of the golfer who comes in too shallow and has trouble committing to a forward weight location. As mentioned in my post of last night, I am seeing the light by just setting up forward, almost like a chip, and hitting mid-irons that way. It is starting to sink in.

But, I must say, the S&T movements didn't really help much.

Dj......just set up with a weight distribution that FEELS like you can strike the ball on the angle of attack you desire........meaning set up your weight favoring your left side and determine the % by "feel".......when it feels like you can compress the ball in the manner you wish then your getting close..........fool around with your weight distribution.........I believe VERY strongly in the player experimenting with their grips strength......the % of weight they set up right vs. left.......etc. etc........you CAN make a baseball type of golfswing IF you set up so as to avoid getting stuck on your right side.......different "angles" and weight distribution but the same basic rotation.........just experiment a bit........hell, ya' got nothing to lose as you might fine YOUR "secret"......
