Nike wedge restoration

In case anyone is curious about the process...

150 grit

220 grit

1000 grit

2000 grit

Perma Blue Liquid gun blue

 

All done by hand.

Will be interested to hear how it plays. Obviously a labor of love and very beautiful, even finish, but that face looks slicker than snot on a glass doorknob.

IMO, you'll probably find the wedge plays great on full shots from fairway and dry conditions; any shot where you will be able to get some compression on the ball. Introduce some moisture (morning dew) and you will see your control become inconsistent. Same for short pitches and chips; 30 yards and under. With little surface roughness on the face (blast or milling) the ball will slip up the face.

Can't tell if the posts above are serious. The surface will not affect performance.

 

Looks nice. I'm assuming that will rust again unless you wipe it with a cloth diligently?

Forgot to post pictures of the face after I gave it some texture.

I chipped one in for eagle yesterday with this wedge so I'll continue playing with it for the time being.

It has developed some surface rust already but it wiped off with a towel.

Does gun blue give any type of sealant to the club to prevent further rusting? Obviously those wedges were raw and designed to rust but is this a way to "finish" them for us rare guys who don't actually like/want raw and rusty clubs? I'm interested.

I don't think it has a significant effect in preventing rust. I do think the polished finish makes the surface rust wipe off easily though.
