Wildfire Golf Club?

Heading to Phoenix for a conference in a couple months and staying at the Mariott Desert Ridge. Thinking of bringing my clubs since they have two courses there, the Wildfire Golf Club.

My question is, are the courses worth playing or should I take an Uber and play somewhere else in the area while there?

I’d recommend:

Camelback ambiente

Tpc champions

Troon north

All are much better than wildfire and within 20 mins

Add Grayhawk to the list

It wouldn't be my first choice necessarily but I actually liked the Faldo course (better then the Palmer). Normally I'd say def. play Grayhawk if you can get a good rate... but my buddy just played there a couple of weeks ago and said it was in horrific shape. I was quite shocked to hear this based on what they are charging this time of year and I've only played there in great conditions.

Verde River gives you an option probably closer to what Wildfire would cost (~$125). It's in great shape right now and far better than Wildfire (if you play Wildfire, definitely play the Faldo course). It may look like a hike but it's only 5 miles from Troon North.

Solid advice with but it is not 5 miles from Troon North. I live 5.4 miles from the clubhouse at Troon North. It is 9.3 miles from clubhouse to clubhouse and you have to deal with Dynamite/Rio Verde road which can be a PITA depending on time of day and whether you get behind a slow farmer/horse trailer or not. It takes me less than 10 minutes to get to Troon North even though it is all neighborhood mileage. There's no way I can get to Verde River (12.3 miles) in less than 20 min and I drive like a maniac whenever possible.

Still, solid advice. Wildfire is very mediocre.

You drive too slow. And it's a nice drive. Nice intro to the mountains.

I hit 116mph on the way back from Verrado yesterday (and got passed!) so that feels unlikely ;). Tried to hit 120mph but got blocked off. I have no idea why I haven’t ever had a speeding ticket or, for that matter, been jailed. I’ve certainly tried.

BTW, for those not from here that think I’m a lunatic, I10 West of PHX can be a bit of a speedway. I was in a large group (8-10 cars) all going over 100mph for a few miles.

Totally off topic but back when I had my modified GTI VR6 I once made it from the Scottsdale Pavillions to Costa Mesa CA in 4 hours Left at 5 was there by 8 local (time zone change) Was cruising with a M5 and a Mustang GT from Goodyear to Quartzsite 110-115mph the entire way. The 91 into Riverside is a tad sketchy at 90+ though. Was a Tuesday evening little to no traffic. Water Pump blew on Victoria St about 1/4 mile from my buddies place.

Thanks for follow ups. I will likely travel and try to plan troon north if I have time. Question is whichncourse tonolay there? Monument?

Pinnacle as a whole. Monument has one really really good short par 4 like one of the best in the valley but the rest of the course is very repetitive target golf.
