Proof of Handicap

Hi team,

What is sufficient proof of your handicap when playing St Andrews etc? I have my golflink card and a screenshot of my handicap from the Golf Australia website. Will that suffice?

I can't find anything like an official handicap certification provided in Australia.

Yep that's fine, i printed mine off but seen a lot of people just showing their phones

Agreed, I also had a printout, but most had it pulled up on phones.

If you are playing the Old Course, no matter what you hear or read, have your proof at hand. The starter was a nice gentleman, but asked for all 3 of ours last Tuesday morning. It does happen and you won't be playing if asked and don't have it (as he confirmed).

Oh, and don't have a sandwich in your hand anywhere near the first tee - gulls will attack it even if you are taking a bite - I also know this from personal and bloody experience, lol.

Just recently got back. The only course out of 7 played that asked for proof was the Old Course. We played Carnasty, New Course, Jubilee, Kingsbarns, Panmure and North Berwick.

An handicap certficate is offically required.

I had mine from my home golf course (NOT the teaching professional, which is not accepted).

Anyway, when I played the OC, the starter only asked which were our handicaps and did not even saw our certificates, but we reserved the tee time during the 2 weeks open reservation, 8 months before.

I heard a lot of walk-in that were denied to play as they didn't have this certificate.

Nobody asked anything for the other st. andrews courses and not even in courses as gleneagles or carnoustie.

I've played all of the Open Rota courses in Scotland and N. Ireland. The Old Course and Muirfield asked for our proof of handicap. I had a print out of my GHIN Card and that was accepted at both courses.

Can confirm that I played TOC on June 26 - and the started was fine with me showing my phone.

My handicap is thru MSGA (Md State Golf Assn) and I simply showed the screen capture of my current Handicap report.

People we were paired with had paper printed - and that was fine as well. It was a very cursory check.

Just as a side note - in the group directly in front of us was a player who I highly doubt to be a 24. He hit 2 balls OB left on #1!

As you all know you can look at someone and see if they have a swing - and maybe they are nervous (I certainly didn't hit my best shot off #1!) but this guy swing completely broke down. Both arms bent at the elbows back and thru - a big slash move. Hard to describe - he also did not use a caddy (for obvious reason) so he was the only person I saw carrying his own bag (it was before 12 so no trolleys)

I will give him credit - he kept up...but all day long he was all over the place. 1 time we thought the fairway was clear, and our caddies told us to tee off - all of a sudden this guy appears from the left (he was left all day!) - the caddy said who is that guy? (his group was already up to the green)...I said "that's that guy from #1"!

No way he broke 120 out there...pretty obvious fake handicap...but no worries.
