Need a course to play!
Hey guys,

I'm going to the wisconsin dells this weekend with the girlfriend. I need a course to play one of the mornings I am there. Any suggestions you guys have would be great. I'm also trying to convince her to play or at least ride along so if there is any decent courses that you can suggest for her to play as well that would also be great. Thanks

Bryan

Northern Bay Golf Resort & Marina, just 30 minutes north of the Wisconsin Dells

good stuff. It's a replica course:

Northern Bay #3 pits you against the 16th at Augusta

Northern Bay #10 likens the famous island green at the TPC at Sawgrass; a Par 3, 146 yards,

Northern Bay #18 -famous finishing hole at Arnie's course, the Bay Hill Club

I'm going to be in Wisconsin in a few weeks. I'll be up in the Dells but also will go through Janesville and Madison. Any recommendations on courses in good condition or ones to avoid at this time? How's Christmas Mountain and Coldwater Canyon? Both are on the cheap side but I'll play them if they are decent. Also considering Reedsburg CC.

All I have booked is Northern Bay so far. I can't wait to play the TPC Sawgrass replica island green hole.

I've also played Trappers Turn and Wild Rock in the Dells and in Janesville I've played Riverside and Glen Erin.

Thanks!

I was in Janesville a few weeks ago. If you are playing there, try your best to play the Country Club, but if you aren't able to get on I would say Riverside is your best bet. It was in very good shape when I was there.

Brian,

Wild Rock. I think best one up there. I played Trappers Turn as well and was left very disappointed. U will enjoy Wild Rock very much.

I will second what Brian has to say about Wild Rock, although it might not be as accommodating for your girlfriend. The greens are a little crazy, but the speeds make them reasonable. There is a great variety and interesting holes and plenty of wildlife to see. If you only have time for one round, I don't think it's even a question that this is the best course to play.

Thanks and I have Riverside lined up now. Great muni course. Good to hear it's in good shape, so I passed on Glen Erin. $18 walking before 8 am! Then later I have Wild Rock followed by Northern Bay.

I forgot to mention that Northern Bay was a hoot! Loved the Augusta #13 (I think) par 3 and Sawgrass island green replicas and most of the other holes, #1 being the most boring. Great course for all skill levels.

Also all the other courses were in decent shape. Northern Bay, Wild Rock, and Riverside were in the best shape. Glen Erin was OK too but some of the greens were sorta beat up. I got my a$$ handed to me at Glen Erin in 20 mph winds. Shot my index at all the others so 'twas a great vacation!

I know this is an old thread, but I vote another for Wild Rock. Very scenic and well kept. Teebox to green, everything is in great shape throughout the season. We play a round in the spring, 1 in the summer, and 1 in the fall every year.

If you're in the Dells area coming from Milwaukee/Chicago you might also like Devil's Head for the course layout... the conditions are nowhere near what you get at Wild Rock but it is pretty fun to play if you get a decent deal for greens fee.
