Professions and Golf

Hey guys, I'm curious about the professions of most golfwrx members. I'm in my mid-twenties and just fixing to graduate from law school, and am hoping to one day be able to play as much golf as it seems like many wrx'ers do! Any suggestions on being able to work golf into a busy work and family schedule, and how to afford paying for it as much as I want?

Quality Assurance Manager here in manufacturing for over 40 years. I've had no problem working golf into my schedule. I am very glad to see you say 'one day', you seem to have a head on your shoulders plus plus you're looking for advice. I would like to qualify that by advising anyone in their 20's that whatever their sport or hobby, first just work as hard as you can and get yourself and your career, and family if you intend to have one aligned, so that you can balance everything as well.

You will need golf for enjoyment and as an outlet too, just fix a budget in advance of both your money and your time, and stick to it. I think that's one of the keys at your age is learning to plan what you can afford with both and then not giving in no matter how difficult it seems. Review it once in a while to see if you're giving too much time and money to golf comparatively.

Hopefully over time you'll find you can loosen up your schedule and give golf even more, but at your age there are other things to concentrate on too. It's great that you have the integrity to want the best way to do it. WRX'ers will give you pretty good advice actually based on a lot of different types of experience...

I’m an attorney with the federal government. I’m lucky because I work a 6-4 schedule. My friends in private practice had a rough few years coming out of school and a few dropped golf completely. In private practice an associate’s life is all about the billable hour. And that can be exhausting because you usually cannot bill a straight 8-10 hour day. I’m not sure what area of law you are going into but that will greatly affect the amount of free time you have as an associate. Good luck and don’t give up tbe game. Work gets better!

I’m an attorney in a firm, married with three young kids and it’s tough. The last few years I’ve played more charity scrambles than real rounds. I live on a private course and have my own cart so most of my golf is a few holes in the evening after work with my kids, or 9 holes if i’m By myself. My 8 year old son is really getting into golf so I’m hoping that leads to more weekend rounds with him.

Thanks for the advice all, much appreciated. I'm fully expecting most of my rounds the next few years to be on the weekends, and I'm sure my game will suffer but that's a small price to pay for being able to provide for myself and my wife. At the very least I'm not the only one with this issue.

My best bet may be having kids that decide they want to be golfers! Ha

Exec for a small software company. Spent the last two years working on turning it around but I feel like I may play more than 1x this year, so that's good.

I hope you have time to play. I have some lawyer friends who had to go through several years of h e ll chasing billable hours to the tune of 80 a week, often working 6 or 7 days.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
