Fujikura ATMOS Black Tour Spec 7x- Why does this work for me?

Recently picked up an Epic SZ with an ATMOS Black Tour Spec 7x in it and have played 2 rounds so far. I was hoping the board could provide some knowledge for me as to why this shaft may be working for me. I'm a medium speed swinger. My driver SS hovers anywhere from 95-100 on average and I typically play the Diamana D+ LTD 70 S in my drivers. I decided to give the ATMOS a try and so far it has been nothing short of remarkable. I don't find it to be too much to handle and I've honestly hit some of the longest drives in my life. A good drive for me is usually right around 255-260 total and I hit some over the weekend that no joke hit 290-295. I was hoping someone could make sense of this for me because I can't rack my brain around it.

Couldnt tell ya really - just go with it. Enjoy the new found distance and hopefully accuracy to boot! I had that same experience with the Matrix Black Tie. Read and heard it was a pole, rebar, etc...but I tried it and loved how it felt and performed. I have an atmos black 6s currently - love it. Thing I like about Fuji, to me, they play and feel very stable. Like 1 piece throughout the swing. I never lose sight of where the head is and I know I can swing it with confidence and it is just going to fly. G luck.

Yeah I totally agree with the stability factor. Doesn't feel like the shaft ever gets out of control. The bad swings I've had, I could tell are user error as opposed to the shaft not performing or getting too loose. I've been truly shocked at how well the X flex has worked out.

That is why it's important to try different things "just for fun" in a fitting, at a demo day, through trial and error etc. I fit a guy on Friday into some P790s from Rocketbladez with stock stiff shafts. He loved the feel of the Rocketbladez, and was honestly throwing darts with them. I think he missed 3/10 greens with them on our trial. The Rogue Pro with DG SL R300 was working very well (he told me the feel was amazing the shaft felt great), so we tried the P790 just for fun. He got a about 5 yards more carry with the P790 due to the velocity slot, but accuracy was all over the place. I wanted to see if we could tighten him up but maintain that distance bump, so I grabbed a PX 5.5, which typically suit players that are a bit more aggressive in the swing and with higher speed than he was (he topped out at like 81.5mph with a 6i), but mainly for the extra 10g or so of weight. Suddenly he gained 20 yards of carry, he gained 1mph of swing speed, his ball speed jumped 8mph over his own, his spin stayed the same as his own, and his descent angle went up by 2* despite the PX being a "low launch, low spin" shaft and the stock RBLDZ shaft being the opposite. I double and triple checked the loft, it was exactly the same, both were 26.5* 6i. He hit every green on his trial with the PX.

Needless to say they went in the bag. Long story even longer, sometimes shafts just "work" despite them not appearing to work on paper. All you can do is run with it until the magic wears out, which is hopefully a really long time. :)

Nice find. I saw your original thread and was glad you found a club that worked so well, at such a steal.

Yeah I'm extremely happy with the purchase. Can't believe the price I got it for and for it to suit me so well has been the cherry on top. Going to try and keep the good vibes going for as long as possible!

Awesome story and I totally agree with the point. Some people are fairly shaft agnostic but others have real specific things that work with their hands and brains and I think its all about finding whatever those things happen to be.

To the OP, it sounds like a combo of the weight and the stability is just something that works for you and your swing, you're a lucky man! It took me quite awhile to figure out the same kinds of things that worked for me so I recommend grabbing some spares just in case and enjoying the ride. :D

I'm finding places on the course I never saw with my CK Pro White tipped 1".........I've played heavily tipped driver shafts before & it never worked out but the CK Pro it's just so easy to swing & go after the ball. What is even more amazing is it has totally eliminated the far left side of the course. Good hits are Dead Straight or beautiful power fades.

Sometimes it's not about the flex it's finding the profile that reacts with what you do on a regular basis.

My big concern was that it would turn my slight fade into a block fade due to not being able to swing fast enough to get the shaft to react, but I haven't experienced that at all. Everything has been in control. This is the first Fujikura shaft I've ever played and it's been great. I think you hit the nail on the head with finding the profile that works for me and not necessarily the flex.

The Fujikura shafts that I have played in the past have just flat out performed. Vista Tour 60, Rombax 7V05, Rombax 7W06, and Motore F1 75, Fuel Tour Spec 70 are all shafts that have found their way into my bag, but haven't stayed long. Not for lack of down range performance, but because feel wasn't my cup of tea. They tend not to have the pronounced kick that, say, a Diamana has for me, but every single one has performed as it is supposed to for me. The Vista Tour was a low, flat penetrating ball flight as was the Fuel Tour Spec. Rombax V was on the higher end of a mid/mid profile, and feel was great, but I like a little more weight feedback in hand than it provided. Rombax 7W and Motore F1 75 were both outstanding on the lower end of a mid flight and with good weight feedback, and to be 100% honest, I really liked the feel of the Motore F1...it definitely had the nice feeling of kick through impact. Stupidly, in being a ho, I let it go when I sold my 910 after getting my 913 which turned out to be a bit of a flop. Couldn't source another Motore F1, so went back to my tried and true Diamana. Fast forward, I'm in an Aldila Rogue 125 MSI, and though it doesn't have the kick through impact that I get from say, a White Board, it definitely performs. Good strong mid flight with comparatively low spin.

The Atmos line is super legit, like i said maybe you just found a profile that absolute maxes your Smash Factor. If you are hitting center club face with a good swing that atmos may just be your golden ticket. Don't take it outta the bag, don't try a different shaft, just keep swinging that thing like you currently are.

I'm gonna do the same with my CK Pro M3 combo & enjoy hitting wedges/9 irons into par 4's :)

Fuji make awesome shafts, I mean the Worlds #1 is playing a nearly 10 year old shaft in his driver & leading the field in driving distance almost weekly.

I agree all the ones you talked about performed great but as you stated sometimes they can be a bit more harsh than say the high end mitsubishi's. I do think the atmos line & some of the EVO line fixed that. I would love to see them do some advanced shafts with the old Rombax weave......Maybe make DJ a proto or something.
