U.S. Open 2019

I am bringing 12 members from here in New Zealand to the U.S. Open 2019 at Pebble. We are looking at playing some golf beforehand in the San Francisco area. I am trying to organise Harding Park at this stage. Any other recommendations for easily accessible courses both for getting to and getting on. I have only played once in San Francisco but am sure 12 of us would not get on there :)

Roll call for the U.S. Open too I guess! Who else is going? We are coming for the Saturday/Sunday then staying on at The Inn - Spanish Bay Monday to Thursday and playing Spyglass, Spanish Bay and Pebble on the Thursday with the grandstands up! Will be a heck on an experience for myself and the members.

Pasateimpo is an hour away from Pebble and it is not easy to arrange transport for 12 but I BADLY want to play. Will need to be somewhere closer to where we are staying. I was also thinking Poppy Hills :)

I know it won't be easy to do but I highly, highly encourage you to exhaust all efforts to try and play Pasatiempo. Other than the 3 courses at Pebble, it and Poppy Hills will be your best courses anywhere close to Monterey. Just an FYI, I have never played it but Harding Park doesn't always get the best reviews from posters on this site.

Tossing in another vote for Pasatiempo. As stated above, It really is the best publicly accessible course aside form the three where you’re staying.

Personally, I’d look to play Presidio Golf Course over TPC Harding Park in SF, but Harding may be easier to organise. Another option on the way down from SF to the Monterey Peninsula would be Half Moon Bay Golf Links. They have 36 holes on the property - one 18 that runs out an back along the ocean appropriately called the Ocena Course, and another 18 that is a great mix of holes that are part parkland style, part links called the Old Course - all a lot of fun for any skill level of golfer.

I played Harding Park on May 18th and it is a nice course, but not worth the non resident rate of 170.00 for the day I played. I got a hot deal on golfnow and I paid 57.00 which is close to the city resident rate. If you can get that rate then it is definitely worth playing.

I live 6 blocks from Presidio and am a member at Olympic. DO NOT PLAY Presidio. Its an awful experience, horribly maintained, and very slow. I only play it as a last resort given proximity. Play Harding over it. Unless you have a private course hookup your options are very limited to Harding, Pasatiempo on your way to Monterey, or other Monterey courses. If I were you I’d just head down to Monterey early and play as much golf as possible down there.

Thanks for the update on Presidio, that a recent fall-out? When I played it last spring the greens weren’t anything to write home about, but they weren’t awful. Harding was a 6 hour round and conditions were less than stellar all over the course.

You sir, are a lucky man being a member at Olympic. I was fortunate enough to play in April. What a treat. It was right before a rather large member event on a weekend I believe. The 3 members I played with were outstanding ambassadors for the course. Made me feel welcome - even shouted me a beverage and bite after 9. A special day indeed.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
