Scoring Average

How low does it have to be?

Hi all, this question is geared towards those who play(ed) college golf. In my research I am struggling to find info as to what level scoring is relevant to the level of college. My tournament scoring average is 75.3 for the year to date FWIW. Any help is appreciated.

I would like to know also, as I'm thinking of going to America for college. I could probably go there for a year without being on the team as my grades are definately good enough and I am still improving drastically, but I think I would stay in Australia until I could be in the team as I could get the same education in the Universities here. To date, I've dropped 19 shots in 21 months since I've been playing, and, since May, have averaged at just over 79.

Campbellsville University is a small baptist college in central kentucky. They had tryouts for top 5 a few weeks ago. They shot 62, 66, 68, 69, 69. All the other young men that arent in the top 5 shot under par. This is a NAIA school. Not even divison 2.

It depends on location too. I live in the northeast and am looking at colleges up here to play golf. Some schools score averages are higher than one would think for division 1,2 and 3

A lot of NAIA schools are just as good as top 25 D1 schools, because NAIA they have a lot more scholarships they can give and grades aren't as important. So the kids are really good, and have crappy grades end up going NAIA because they focus more on athletics than education

Yea, NAIA is just as good as NCAA in every sense athletic wise.

 

Im at a jr college in PA right now, my tournament scoring avg last spring was a 74.7, but it's gotten a ton better since then and havent shot a round over 75 since I got here at the end of august. I'll most likely be either the no. 1 or 2 player for my team come the spring.

 

It just depends on grades and money for where you'd like to go. If your avg is 75.3 you have a good shot at getting into a fairly competitive D1 school if you have a really good tourney sked, if those are less important tourneys, you can still probly get into D1, but most likely not a bigger competitive school unless they knew of you. Also check out good D2 schools, top D2 schools are just as good as D1.

Just curious, as a freshman with a 78 average if i can improve to like a 72-73 average as a junior would i have a shot at D2?

Im most likely going D1 with scholarship and my average as a senior right now is 74 so just look around and find the right school for you

Too many people get caught up in playing DI...my scoring average over the summer was 72.1. I was ranked 131 in the nation coming out of high school, but I decided on a top DII school. I wanted to go somewhere where I knew I would play right away and also play for a championship. I could have gone to a few DI schools and would have had to sit out the first couple tournaments, and even possibly the first year. I have a few friends that are at DI schools and aren't getting to play at all...i dont know how fun that would be.

im going to an alright d1 school and yes i am going to sit out freshman year but its going to be redshirt year and its not like your going to graduate in 4 yrs anyways so actually your getting a better experience from many of my friends already going thru this eam and being on it and they challenge for their conference championship each year

If you shoot in the mid seventies you can find a college to play in. This topic is getting old.

Actually, if you can shoot low 80's you will find a college....You dont have to be very good at all and you can get scholarship to a junior college...You just have to sell yourself when talking to coaches.

I am also about to sign with a school...my scoring ave. this year was 71.35 in Hs and 73.5 in AJGA

 

I have a couple DI partial offers but i am going to head the top DII route.

 

if you get it around 75 and like Gehen said "sell yourself" you will find a NAIA of JC coach that wants you...or even a DII coach

Grades are important for DI and DII also
