Winn G8 Rave vs Lamkin Dual Density Crossline vs Lamkin Crossline Cord for Rain

Has anybody used any of these grips in the rain
As the topic says, has anybody used any of these grips in the rain?

If so how did they fair?

I currently play with Lamkin Dual Density Torsion Controls and love them in the dry, but have played in a couple of tournaments in the rain....and lets just say they don't perform nearly as well when wet.

I hear cord is the best, but if I can stick to a softer rubber, I would prefer to.

Thoughts or any other similar grips that would work?

Best ones I have played are the Golf Pride V55 full cord with Crosslline Sofcord a close second.

I tried Winn and thought they were rubbish. Don't last long either.

I have torsion control on one set of irons because they came with them fitted but will change them to V55 when the Autumn rain starts to hit Shanghai. V55 are pretty hard but you soon get used to it.

Yup tried rain gloves....and still will continue to use them (great unless it's cold..then the hands freeze because the rain gloves work better wet)...they help but still don't feel as in control of my club as I feel I should.

ย

Hence to search for a better all weather grip...leaning towards the Lamkin SofCord....

Had soaked a buddy's G8 grip and at first it was tacky...them after some more water it was like slippery mush (all weather gripp my a**!).

If you like soft that works in the rain, you don't have many options as this is sort of a contradiction in terms ;)

ย

BUT - you might give the Lamkin Dual Density Torsion Control TOUR version a try. The regular Torsion Control grip in blue with small more firm black areas, that you use, are very soft and mushy feeling. The Tour version of this grip is reversed, so the main part of the grip is in the firm black color and only small areas has the softer blue material. This grip should work better in rainy weather for you.

ย

Regular version:

Tour version:

ย

ย

With that being said, the best rain grips are without a doubt:

ย

1. Lamkin Crossline Full cord

2. GolfPride New Decade Multi Compound

ย

But neither of those are soft feeling at all.

I have the tour version Torsion Control but they are still not as good in the wet as a cord grip.

Have not tried IOMIC. Anyone have an opinion?

ย

STAY away from Iomic in humid and rainy weather - they slip off your hands like nothing else I've tried ;) :beee:

ย

I use Iomic on my summer putter grip, but even the putter I use in my rain/winter bag won't have Iomic on it - Iomic may be soft, but it will NOT work in humid and wet weather.....;)

Thanks, Claus. Saved me some trouble as it's humid, wet or both for most of the year in this area.

ย

It rains a lot in Shanghai ?

ย

I really like Iomic on the putter I use for my summer game (it's not that humid during the summer where I live) - but I wouldn't use Iomic on anything but my putter. This grip is nice in neon color and feels nice - but durability is LOW and as I say, as soon as water is involved, Iomic SUCKS BIG TIME !

I had the winn extra firm g8's in my old irons and they were horible except within a small margin of conditons. In colder weather they were hard as rocks in rain they were mushy, in heat they felt great until they got saturated then no amount of toweling of and wiping left them feeling clean and grippy.

ย

The other problem is you cannot clean winn grips like a normal grip since you are not supposed to rub them or get them wet cause they absorb water into the grip.

ย

I play in alot of bad weather since I live in chicago and I'll play for most of the year so I get cold, rain, snow, heat and humidity. I played golf pride dual durometer and they felt the exact same in all conditions, the same goes for the crosslines on my irons, very consistant.

ย

Id say the dual durometer corded felt to me like the best combo of feel and grip. The 2nd would be the new decade. the only thing is the new decades wear kinda quickly.

Stay away from any Winn grips in the rain. I like the way Winn grips feel but everytime I have played in the rain or really humid conditions they were very, very slick.

Thanks for the replies...

I figured the Tour Torsion controls to be slick as well...just a touch firmer then my current grips.

Iomic grips are super funky, but the worst grips in the rain, wear horrible....and more than double the $$ of my current grips I believe.

ย

I think I'll give the Lamkin Sofcords a try...as it sounds like cord is the only way to go.

They feel soft enough when new...and I change my grips a couple times each year so I'd imagine they won't ever get "too firm" for me.

The Lamkin DUal Density is a great wet/humid weather grip. I swear that grip has stickum built into the material, as it never loses its tackiness.
