Vintage Golf Shoes, (screw-in spikes)

A wet Scottish Sunday morning today, and this was the view from the 5th tee. Someone had a long day ahead of them...

Those being Dexter golf shoes someone's feet were probably killing them---- That is a good place for those----- Man if someone wore those type spikes on a course here the greens staff would have a heart attack----- But seriously as I mentioned before my Old man was the one with the problem about Dexter Shoes and I liked them ok.

The whole spike thing still twerks me off! As Chris said it's simply more marketing B.S. A good pair of golf shoes would last you at least 10 to 15 years with no spike change needed. Now the spikes need to be changed yearly or more and you pay $100 or more for a pair of shoes you're lucky to get 3 years out of. What A Racket!

No spike change needed for 10-15 years? I learned to play golf in metal spikes and remember changing them every 6-12 months.

 

Now I will admit the modern shoe is pretty much disposable after a season or two. But then almost all shoes are these days unless you buy real high end bespoke stuff.

+1 on spike changes. I saw plenty of folks that did not change theirs but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have. Tons of players let them wear down to nubs rather than replacing them. Probably the same guys that think they "need" the steel for proper traction today. Steel spikes lasted no longer than the modern spikes and definitely tore up the greens worse than the modern spikes do.

When you think of spiked Footjoys, think of Doug Sanders. He had a pair color matched to every sweater/trousers combination he had. Back in the day I wore Footjoy street shoes purchased at Larry’s in Dallas. Really liked them.
