718 AP2 compared to 710 AP2

Well I was at the range last night with one of my friends and we getting in some practice time with our irons before our golf trip this weekend. I current play the 718 AP2s and he is still playing his 710 AP2s. I had the 710s back in the day so I grabbed his 7 iron and hit a few shots with it. It has been a while since I had the 710s and the first thing I noticed was that the club head looked huge to me. So I got out the 7 iron from my 718s and put this side by side. I could not believe the difference as the 710s dwarfed the 718s. Blade lenght was longer, toe was taller and the sole was much wider. The 710s also felt softer when hitting them or maybe just not as clicky of a feel.

 

This got me thinking as some of the best golf I played was with the 710s and the 712s I had back in the day. Now I have only had the 718s in the bag for about two months and I am still geting used to them and figuring them out, however after hitting the 710s last night it made me wonder why I ever go rid of them or the 712s.

I've never understood why someone would get rid of a set of irons that they've played their best with, unless they were completely worn out

I just retired my set of 710s for a set of 714s. Only 2 rounds played but I can see a forgiveness difference, couple of less than perfect shots that held their line better than the 710s.

So although I've played some great golf over the years with the 710s,if I see an advantage with the 714s,ill play them.
