iron fitting - how important?

i will be ordering new irons and a new driver soon and have scheduled a driver fitting, my irons specs have not changed, 2* Flat off of 63* 7 Iron and 36.5"for the last 20 years, I have moved from X100/6.5 - Rifle 6.0, and I have been using Steelfiber i95S for years now. I know my game and I am always hitting new irons and shafts at the store. So pre-fitting and I went and hit a ton of stuff yesterday and I am looking to add a GI set that I can still look down at. I dialed in some G400 Irons with Rifle 6.0 LZ shafts (as much as I like the SF95's I missed the weight), I picked up 5 yards, hit them straight and liked the feel and look. since an iron is a precision instrument should I even bother adding an iron fitting, is the juice worth the squeeze? too many options, etc.

I totally see the advantage of driver fittings, weight bias, loft, Shaft, etc. Maximize distance while hitting it straight?

This has been an incredibly hot topic the last few weeks on GolfWRX. It always ends at the same place. You will have someone say that they have played golf for 50 years and never done an iron fitting because it’s an absolute waste of time and money. Then you’ll have someone who had an iron fitting and they didn’t see any improvement to their score. Finally you’ll have someone who loved their fitting experience and would suggest it to all.

If you go to a club fitter who is great at what they do and has a ton of knowledge, then you’ll have a great time and see results. If you go to an average fitter who cares more about upselling you then educating and properly fitting you, you’ll leave feeling like you wasted time and money.

As a club fitter myself, I always tell people that if they get fit for clubs and don’t see results on course, go get your money back or work with the fitter until you see results. I’m only worth your results on course.

Lastly, we all define value differently. What you see as valuable, someone else may not see it the same way. Talk to your fitter and see how they model their business and what happens if results aren’t seen. And ALWAYS get pricing with each item broken down and explained.
