question on bending a forged iron 2 degrees strong

Have a set of basically new MP 53s I want to bend them 2 degrees strong to make them play more a modern loft. What will it do to bounce and will they just dig all the time on shots

OK, but why? With a 42* 9i and a 46* PW, you are set up for decent loft spacing for wedges.

What do you hope to gain from the stronger lofts? Are you afraid someone with P790 or Rogue.X irons will hit their 7i farther than you?

Bounce and loft are directly correlated.

Increase Loft 1 degree, bounce increases 1 degree

Decrease loft 1 degree, bounce decreases 1 degree

Yeah I don't get this whole obsession. Only other reason is I hear of people having a ball flight that is too high and that is probably due to swing error. Have you seen how high pros hit it? I'd rather have to knock shots down than be hitting green fliers all day. I play 34 or 35 degrees in my 7i and would never want anything weaker.

My thoughts exactly.

Adjust your lofts to get desired yardages and yardage gaps. Most (all ?) people would be better off optimizing for shorter yardages than longer, i.e. do you really need multiple irons that you hit over 200 yards?

The short answer is you can definitely do that. 2⁰ to a forged iron is fine.

It's always good to have your irons checked anyhow. Many folks find one or more irons which aren't where they're supposed to be either because they came that way or because constant wear slowly changed them. Just because the catalog says that 7-iron is 35⁰ does not mean the one in your hand is. They can very easily be out. In fact, it's a small miracle when a set is found that totally matches the catalog.

As to whether you should do it, I'd side with the other folks. They are probably fine as is.
