Best carry bag for minimalist golf

Yes, carrying 8 clubs + 6 balls, a bottle of water, & misc. crap in my Mac Sunday Walker is easier than going the route of a push cart......for me. I think a lot depends on how balanced the bag is (Mackenzie & Elliott are legendary for this). I'm no spring chicken, but have really come to appreciate the walk.

Carrying is much easier, at least I think so. I usually carry 5-7 clubs, in a carry bag.

For the last several years, I've carried Jones originals. Some 15-20 years ago, I bought a Walter Hagen Sunday Bag at DSG's, to replace an aging Jones that I bought for $2 at a yard sale. It was a great bag for carry. Don't recall how long it lasted, but I loved it. Of course, it was discontinued. Golf has become predominately a cart riding sport, so who need a carry bag?

Last fall, I was browsing on ebay, and someone had one for sale. I bought it, still wrapped in plastic.e31xs9jq7x0w.jpg

I use the club I just hit to lift the strap, avoiding bending. Works with any carry bag.

I love my trestle sticks! Without them I might not have converted fully to a non stand bag. I’d say I use my sticks at least 80% of the time. I just find it easier than setting the bag on the ground. When I start my round I pull the sticks out on the first tee and set my bag up. When I start walking I grab the bag with one hand, the sticks with the other and start walking, carrying the sticks like a walking stick basically. Get to my ball, flip them open and set the bag down. Takes zero extra time. I’ll occasioanlly slide them back into the bag when I need both hands free, like to clean a wedge while walking to the green, and then I’ll often just set the bag down on the ground. But on the next tee the sticks will come back out.

ClaretDreamer on Instagram makes great sticks, I have two sets, one for each Mackenzie.

Ping Moonlight especially if you can find one at a discount is tough to beat. I've had Jones and Sun Mountain Sunday bags, lusted over Mackenzie, and even have thought about having a custom bag made to my design, but for under $150, the Moonlight holds 14 clubs fairly comfortably and less even better (I usually carry 11-12), has a waterproof bottom panel, longish dividers, and a functional double strap convertible to single if that's your bag. My only complaints would be (1) the double strap setup requires some tweaking to get it right, and (2) the Ping branding is, as always, too much. Searched for a no-logo model to no avail.
