Why shouldn’t he or anyone be allowed to qualify? I never really understood the maximum handicap, you’re only screwing yourself if you’re a 10 and write 1. For the few years of playing amateur events in the USGA, FSGA, SGA Am events, I always just put 0 and no one asked or checked to my knowledge. Do they check I can’t imagine they would for the first entry, maybe the following times if you post a non competitive score I don’t know.

I know there’s that story of that player overseas that attempted to qualify for the open yearly but never really broke 120.

Fair enough. So the USGA doesn't check handicaps? Whether you should be able to attempt is beside the point is the rule is in place.

PS your message on top of the previous post box....I never said this course was easy. But Romo's scores have no bearing on my question regarding whether he has a valid cap. Matters not a bit in a pro event.

Huh yeah I didn’t realize I still had that in the text box. Someone else said that earlier and I wanted to respond, but then I realized there was literally no point and it wouldn’t be worth my time arguing with him/her.

I’m not sure if they do or not to be honest. Does anyone know if the USGA or other golf organizations will verify handicaps prior to the tournament?

He does NOT get into the Masters, US Open (he is almost a slam dunk to get a Special Exemption now), British Open or WGC Memphis (field strength not high enough)

He does get into the PGA, Tournament of Champions and next year's Players Championship
