Anyone here use DMSO for injuries?

I was playing last week and after trying to hit a punch shot felt a little pop in my left elbow (I'm right handed) and although there was no swelling I've felt something ascue in there. I've laid off golf for a week, partially in anticipation of new sticks on their way and partly not to agravate it. Out of curiousity, have any of you used DMSO for any physical aliments and what were your results?

DMSO is an absorbent chemical, meaning, anything that it's mixed will be absorbed through your skin.

 

i use this chemical at work now and then, and it can be dangerous if there's toxic chemical mixed in DMSO. i usually use carcinogen w/ DMSO, so very dangerous if this gets in me. i have to use nitrile gloves because it goes through latex. i heard back in the days it was used w/ other medicine to be absorbed through skin. however, i believe that DMSO itself is pretty bad in itself when exposed for long period of time, so i do not recommend it.

 

let it heal naturally w/ heat and cold packs.

Exactly.

 

DMSO is a a universal solvent - it dissolves anything.

 

As twofast2s mentioned, since it can dissolve anything it can also move right through your skin and cells very quickly and will take whatever is dissolved right along with it. For that reason, it's pretty commonly used for that purpose to help move drugs through the skin, but it's not a drug by itself.

 

I've got plenty of stories about improper use of DMSO from some of my classes, but no one ever tried it on purpose.

 

I stay VERY current on medical literature and I can't remember reading anything in the past seven years about DMSO as a drug in any of the literature (although it's in every protocol to preserve and suspend cells and organs). All the literature referenced in the link you've provided is VERY old, so I'd say it's suspect. If it was such a magic cure, wouldn't more people be using it?

 

Rest, ice, and anti-inflammatories. If it still hurts, go see your doctor.
