Spider X - sits open ?

I recently picked up a spider x for a good price to try out. Always liked their look.

 

My issue is when I put the putter down behind the ball the face opens up a good inch or two.

 

Is this the same for all spider x putters? Is it possible to have the lie/loft adjusted to make it sit square ?

 

Any help would be appreciated

Same thing happens for me. I want to love the spider or the spider x for this reason but I can't. Plus I just don't feel as much control over this as compared to a blade.

If you add loft, the face should shut a bit. Just like with woods. Of course you may get to much loft if you do that though.

 

But does it sit open when you are on an actual green as well? Many putters don't sitt well on hard floors, but once out on the green the friction doesn't let them open or close as much.

It sits open on the green but not as open as it does on the floors. I guess I’ll get the lie/loft checked just to be sure it’s not way off

Have you putted with the Spider Tour models? I think it's something you just need to get used to. I used to think they sat open as well, but realized I wasn't flushing the bottom of the putter to the ground.

I did try the older models but need an alignment aid. Haven’t tried it out on the course only carpet putting. Will see if it reacts differently on the grass

I just got a great deal on one as well. I was so excited for it to come in the mail, and when it did, it say way open just like yours. Brought it to a friend to check the loft and lie, and the loft was close to zero degrees! He seems to think if we bend it to the 3 degrees the putter should sit more square. Only issue is bending the short slant and not messing up the copper finish/paint.

Wow zero degrees? I’m thinking of selling it now rather than bending it and messing up the finish.

I thought it was just me that it look like it sits open too. I rolled a few putts and was pushing them right of the hole. The way it sits makes me want to align more left.

Yea I find it incredibly difficult to lineup straight. Unfortunately going to move on from it even though I want to love it

Just put your foot on the head and bend the shaft towards the face. Go a little at a time. It will move pretty easy and there are no worries about messing up the paint in the bending machine.

I bent the shaft like he said. It actually works. Hard to believe, but it does.

So ive gone thru a few putters that do this. Some sit square some site shut which id prefer over open. Then some and most sit open. I really noticed a spider x is all over the place ive picked on up it was shut then picked one up it was open. Then a square one. Also noticed weight and grip differences too. This tends to be a pattern i have seen with taylormade to be honest. That being said i do like some taylormade stuff i have a few putters from them and they do work great and sit well but you got to get the right one off the rack. Also putter length and how you tend to set it down can help or hurt this open square or closed thing.
