Watching the golf yesterday and when one of the commentators mentioned Rose's new club contact, it got me thinking, why don't they talk more about the clubs the pros use? Its a huge untapped discussion that most golf fans would be delighted to hear talked about but its purposely left out, I'd love to hear about the wedges in someones bag, loft, grind etc

I know conflicts with their advertisers is the reason but even that I don't fully understand.

Sports broadcasts rarely talk about equipment unless it’s relevant to what’s happening on the field.

 

How often do you hear Marv Albert talk about a player’s shoes or a baseball announcer talk about a player’s Louisville Slugger?

 

Mentioning an equipment change is about all that really matters on a golf broadcast and there’s really no reason to get super specific about it

with so many companies to deal with. You just run the risk of giving free air to one company over another. So it is better to just stay away from equipment talk as much as possible.

Do you realize how many potential fans would turn the channel if they had to listen to that? Even in here we have an equipment forum. The last thing any casual fan cared about yesterday was the putter so and so was using. That stuff will put you to sleep. They are trying to sell a program.

Agree with posts #2 and #3, the announcers aren't going to start saying, "[Player] really has been hitting his Mizuno 919 Tour irons with KBS C-Taper X shafts very well this week,"

 

But to the OP's point: We have WITB info on tons (all?) of these guys from surveys. We have pre-shot graphics on the screen for distance/club. Maybe the graphic could include the type of club? For example, instead of the graphic reading: 196 yards; 6-iron, it could read: 196 yards; 6-iron Mizuno 919 Tour KBS C-Taper X. No ads; the announcers wouldn't comment on it, and it would just be stating a fact. It would be very cool, but probably difficult to implement. TV doesn't always get the club info, and quick cutaways probably don't provide enough time to get the info on the screen. IDK, just a thought.

Some broadcasters would wipe millions off the stock market every other break while crashing the ratings at the same time if they were to talk in depth about equipment.

I usually go get a snack when they start talking about player's swings.

I'd turn the channel if they start talking about player's equipment.
