LA to San Diego in December

What are course and weather conditions like in December. Looking at doing a pre Christmas week trip centered around Torrey. Is December an OK time to golf in Southern California?

Usually.

Sometimes we can get storms out of the N Pacific, but around that time weather should be pretty good. Especially San Diego. It’s ridiculously consistent there

You will be fine. Might get some rain here or there but will be in mid to high 60's and even nicer the closer you are to SD.

Weather will be perfect in December for golf. Can be chilly in the morning but should get to high 60's low 70's during the day. Torrey in December should be prime conditions as they are preparing for the farmers but that comes with longer than normal rough which eats balls even a couple feet off of the fairway. Definitely play both north and south, fun in different ways.

Any concerns with fog for morning tee times that time of year?

Yes, fog is a possibility and no rain (fog) checks unfortunately.

are we talking 7:30am fog or still fog at 11am?

December is usually a fine time to play golf in San Diego. However, be warned that Torrey will have the rough grown up to ridiculous levels in preparation for The Farmers. If you're the type of person who's fun is spoiled by lost balls (or the constant search for balls), you should take that into consideration. Pace is generally slow at Torrey unless you go early, so I don't think people looking for balls will affect that too much.

So I'm set for Dec now. Here is my predicted line up:

Sun: Coronado

Mon: Maderas

Tues: Torrey N or S

Weds: Torrey N or S

 

But if trying to avoid fog as best as can be predicted, should I be looking at tee times after 10am? I'm generally a 7-8 guy but don't mind playing later if I have a better chance to avoid fog.

It's morning fog. Hard to predict conditions exactly. Probably be fine.

more than likely there wont be much fog and if there is it will burn off pretty quickly once the sun is up

Generally, yes. But make sure you check with each course beforehand especially on frost delays and morning fog cover.

 

I lived on the strand/beach for fifteen years. Winter means rain, a chill and inland Santa Ana winds in SOCA. Temps can get into the '30s at times too. Early morning fog is common around beaches and inland courses during winter but starts fading around 9ish. The only other potential issue is a frost delay which depends on the kind of winter we get.

@TheShaun - It will definitely be snowing on those days in SoCal. As a good buddy I will take your tee times for you so you don't have to play in the snow......haha

I don't believe Torrey has ever had a frost delay, that only happens at the inland valleys like Sycuan (Singing Hills) roughly 10 miles inland. Possibly at Maderas too.
