Best place for a 36 hole day in Palm Springs?

Got a trip at the end of January. How do people rank Indian Wells vs. Westin Mission Hills vs. Desert Willow vs. La Quinta vs.... Any others?

Are you ranking based on layout, price, conditions.... ?

If was going on a short golf trip with friends and wanted to play at a 36 hole facility I would rank them:

Indian Wells Golf Resort

Desert Willow

Westin Mission Hills

La Quinta Resort.

 

Thats my preference ignoring costs. PGA West and Desert Springs are options also

La Quinta Mountain and Dunes courses, if the group appreciates challenge. Or if any of them belongs to a private, try to get the group at Indian Wells CC that have 2 courses.

I would rank PGA West (any two) and the Indian Wells resort courses at the top.

Desert Willow Firecliff is phenomenal, but the Mountain View course is meh IMO. And I personally think the Mission Hills resort courses are mediocre.

Just go play Ram's Hill in Borrego Springs twice haha. Only half kidding. If you have the time, do it. Best course I've ever played and more than worth the 1.5 hour drive.

PGA West is awesome. Nicklaus Tournament and Stadium are amazing. Indian Wells Celebrity and Players are beautiful and affordable. LaQuinta Mountain was a let down condition wise.

If you want to play 36 and NOT drive between rounds, I'd choose Indian Wells Resort or Desert Willow in that order.

If you want to play 36 and don't mind driving, play Classic Club (morning only) then Desert Willow Firecliff.

If you want to save some money and play 36, play Escena and maybe The S at Rancho Mirage.

Best conditions are Indian Wells, Desert Willow, and Classic Club. LaQuinta Resort is overrated. Marriott Shadow Ridge is meh. SilverRock might be okay if construction is done. Good luck with your choice.

I assume most would choose an Eagle Falls / Terra Lago-North day over Westin Mission Hills (player / dye) -- True?

And similarly that Eagle Falls / Terra Lago North combo would be better than a Terra Lago South/North day? (It seems North better than South at TL?)

Most likely most would chose Ef/TLN but either choice are fine. The Westin courses are good courses

Terra Lago North is quite different More desert, rocks , hills and views It is in good shape this year The Westin courses route through housing but they are not too close to the fairways

I would rather play Eagle Falls and Terra Lago North as a 36 hole day than playing Terra Lago South in a combo

Damn, Eagle Falls tee times apparently not available that weekend....

So, would you choose Westin Mission Hills (both courses) over Terra Lago (both courses) ??

I would play Indian Canyons South and Indian Canyons North before I played the Westin Mission Hills courses again.

Surprised to hear that! We probably won't do that because one of our guys just spent his vacation playing those courses a bunch. Nonetheless--are you a big fan of Indian Canyons? Or dislike Mission Hills courses? Or both?

I haven't played the North course at Indian Canyons but I have played the South and I would play it twice before I'd play either of the resort courses at Mission Hills. Neither the Dye or Player did anything for me or the guys that I played with.

Indian Canyons South isn't overly difficult but it's quite scenic and we thought it was a lot of fun. It was in great shape too.

Too bad about Desert Willow and Eagle Falls as those are two of our favorites.

Personally, I'd also recommend considering PGA West Nicklaus and Norman. Some don't care much for Norman but we really like it and it's pretty unique to the area.

And as for Ram's Hill it's better than all the rest put together if you ask me - absolutely love that place.

Escena is pretty good too but isn't really close to any of the others except maybe Classic Club which is really good but bring your "A" game!

In my opinion Silver Rock was absolutely ruined by the back nine renovation. It went from being one of our favorites to someplace that we'll never go back to.

Too bad.

Yes it’s a shame that the back nine at SilverRock got messed up. It was our favorite also and we used to play 36 there when we could (one day we got 47 holes in).

Indian Canyons South is a good option also. Great setting and scenery. The North can be a bit tight for long wild hitters. Lots of old bungalow homes with huge windows there ! Lol.
