Badly scratched and dinged driver head - playability / tip removal

So I picked up this banged up X-Hot 9.5* head with a snapped shaft from the local refuse centre recently for a couple bucks.

Looks like the shafts been run over or something, and the head dragged along for the ride. Trying to figure out:

1) Will the scratches/gouges in the face and/or dent on the side affect how it plays?

2) Is there a simple way sans-shaft puller I can salvage the adaptor?

Obviously the shaft is toast so I’m not worried about damaging it in the process. Figured the few bucks was worth it for the adaptor alone, so no harm no foul if it’s all kaput. Cheers ?

Hard to say if the scratches are bad enough to compromise the integrity of the face. You wont really know that until it finally ends up failing - if it does at all. The ding doesn't look too bad to me.

As far as saving the adapter, a puller is required to prevent damage to the shaft, not prevent damage to the adapter. And that's something you don't really have to worry about any more :-)

Lots of ways to get the shaft out. You can heat up the adapter like you would if you were pulling the shaft normally, except you can just grab the shaft with a pair of pliers to pull it out. Drilling it out is another common way to remove broken shafts but if you take that approach be careful, the adapter is aluminum.

You will most likely need to replace the plastic ferrule.

The XHot uses the first gen Optifit adapter which has been deprecated but saves you from having to source one, they just aren’t worth much at this point. Assume by doing so you’re looking to throw a shaft into this head so it’s definitely a cheap experiment or at least a cheap way to learn some basic building.
