All courses in Bavaria (Germany) closed for a month

here in Germany all courses have now closed for a month as part of the social distancing program. No social interaction is allowed until April 19, when it will be re-assessed. I'm sure that a golf course at 7am on a Wednesday morning is one of the safest places to be!

I think this current situation will continue for most of the year and the season will be a write, off. Where ever you are, stay safe and wash your hands!

I personally dont understand why golf clubs would do that, sure close the clubhouse by all means, cancel competitions etc, maybe even restrict it to 2 or 3 ball tee times, but to close seems a bit daft.

 

The clubs in the Uk from what ive seen up to now, inc my own, have cancelled comps, cancelled social events, and implemented new rules like leaving the flag in and no raking bunkers (free drop)

I agree, but there are no exceptions here in Germany, its just the rules and people will be fined for breaking them. If they make one exception then they have to make more. I will chance my arm and try and get out on the course early doors one day next week.

I've heard several epidemiologists on the radio say that being outdoors, such as a playing golf with normal precautions about touching carts, is probably the safest and healthiest place to be.

yes being out doors, on a bike or walking with a bag is about the healthiest place there is.

My course is open. With a host of safety advice. Problem is our average lady member is 69 years old so many of them are running scared. As a matter of interest are the German courses still being maintained?

I'm not sure if they are being maintained, I would expect them to get a trim once a week - there is money in place to support all jobs regardless of what it is, so that the clubs maybe able to keep a club up and running, ready to open the doors as soon as they get the green light.

Most courses in Germany are opened again, no tournaments though...

yes they opened last week. We played a society tournament today, and I think it depends on which state you are in

yes, totally depending on in which federal state you are in, very different rules apply. The federation lets them decide what they think is best for the public. Sometimes even the districts decide if a course can be opened or not.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania courses are opened for 3 weeks now, but no tourists are allowed until next Monday. So the courses are empty. Around Berlin courses opened a few days later and were flooded. And afaik in North Rhine-Westphalia courses are still closed...

Strange times...
