I've had my Neo since Christmas and after using it a dozen times or so, I have to say that I don't need anything else.

I was looking a the Garmin and Skycaddies, but didn't like the subscriptions. My buddy told my girlfriend to get me the Neo for Christmas, so I was kinda skeptical if I was going to like it.

The distances are always +/- 1 yard from the sprinklers, and for me that's close enough. As long as I have the right club, it's good enough for me. But I'm happy if I can shoot under 100. :good:

Bought this on EBay. In less than two hours I was on my local course using the finder. Simply great. Highly recommended. In that time I was able to comprehend the instruction manual, install the software, do a quick battery charge, download 4 courses and out on the course. The only bad thing about the unit, is that I find I am about 10 yards shorter in the distance of my shots than I thought. It is very accurate, right on with my course distance markers. I'm just not hitting it as far as I thought.

Alot of people have said that GPS units are very humbling when it comes down to shot distances. :)

Got a question: An out-of-town buddy just bought a Neo because he liked mine. He couldn't get the included CD to run so he downloaded and installed the sync software from the iGolf website. After everthing finally installed (slow dial-up service), he can't get the software to recognize the Neo device. iGolf tech support tried for two hours to talk him through the problem to no avail. He's running Windows XP. He tried both USB ports on his PC. Any ideas?

Anyone else having distance troubles with their Neo and the new firmware? I noticed last night some big problems, after I under-clubbed quite a bit on a few shots. I'm thinking about going back to the old firmware, if possible.

Interesting. I wonder if the new neo's come with the updated firmware. Hope it comes with the prior version.

Sorry if this was already mentioned....

As most know, Bushnell partnered with iGolf to provide service for all Bushnell devices. The Yardage Pro has a $50 rebate now. So, $199 becomes $149. Its a MUCH better unit than the Neo. I had the Neo, and eventually lost it (belt clip broke, its small and black, could never find it). Now I have the ORANGE Yardage Pro which is pretty hard to loose because you can spot it from quite a distance if dropped on the ground.

My father has the XG and its a great unit. Stores 20 courses. The XGC looks like it will be the best yet (100 course storage).

My last advice regarding the "annual" membership..... Just download every freaking course you know and save them on your computer. I haven't renewed the last 2 years because the maps that went to my Neo work on my Yardage Pro. I got a friend who has an active account and I did need a course, he just emailed me the file :-)

Thanks for the heads up. what is the limit on course downloads? 100 courses?

I've had something unusual happen with my Neo the last couple of times that I played that never happened before I updated the firmware. I started my Neo with the course that I was playing that day and received a satellite lock [distance showed] before placing it in my pocket. I hit my teeshot and when I got to the ball I pulled the Neo out of my pocket for the distance. The Neo was shutoff as if I had never started it - it was only about 5 minutes since I had hit my teeshot. I then proceeded to restart my Neo and "play golf" at the course I was on. The distance came on almost immediately. Never happened again the rest of the day but it was disconcerting. Any of this sound familiar?

EDIT: A couple of other times it worked fine.

I believe the new update has an auto shut off feature, you can turn it off from the menu.

I'll try shutting off the auto-shutoff as you suggested but it's my understanding that the auto-shutoff doesn't take effect until 15 minutes have passed by. That's why I mentioned the five minutes since my teeshot. A friend of mine who also has the Neo has experienced the same conduct as mine after he also did the update. :bb:

Today I bought a Bushnell Neo off Ebay and it's on the way. It is a brand new with the Bushnell logo on the face.

I wonder if the device comes with a newly updated firmware and software. Or do I have to upgrade it when I get it?

Thank you.

This is my answer to my own question. The Bushnell Neo came with an updated firmware and software.

One more thing to note. The manual says that the software is compatible with Intel-based Macs (with recent OS's) But, the software couldn't recognize the unit. I had to install it on my PC desktop. The software is totally useless on Macs. Just wanted to let you guys know.

Please keep us informed as to what customer service had to say about the MAC problem. Thanks.

It does work on an Intel Mac. It's a real ugly install. It's like a 3 parter. Oddly enough, iGolf has decided to use an open source piece of software for the communications. It's called a PL2303 USB to serial reader which can be found on Sourceforge.Net ( It is there as part of their install so you don't have to get it from Sourceforge) It's used on both the Windows and Mac versions. That needs to be installed, as well as something else, as well as the Java Sync app itself.

IT'S A FREAKIN UGLY INSTALL FOR THE MAC WORLD, BUT IT DOES WORK.

Lost my Neo (bonehead move on my part. I think I left on my bumper when leaving the course). I am going to get a new one. Should I get one that is still branded Igolf and doesnt have the update or get one branded Bushnell that comes with the update?

Interesting question. Based on what I know and from what I learned here from others, I would try to get the original Igolf which comes with version 1 software in the package and not Bushnell [with the update]. That is, if you can find it.

I don't know if it is related, but I decided to reset my unit to factory defaults after the yardage issues I was seeing. After reloading the courses, I took it out for a few rounds, and so far it's been OK. It did very well today for me, and the yardages were back within 3-4 of the course yardage markers.

Hmmm! Steve, exactly how did you downgrade? Did you have to uninstall anything? Thanks. I think that I'll do it also.

EDIT: Steve, I reset my unit back to factory defaults and reinstalled the courses using sync but when you go to "about" in "settings" it still reads version 2 and not version 1.
