New iGolf Neo Model

Recommended Posts

You can mark from one spot to the other to get the distance on your shots.

Most courses don't have a waypoints for doglegs, but you can take any course on the Unit and add any points while you are playing. So if it is a course you play often you can mark things they might not have marked such as water, sand, end of fairway, dogleg, or even a place you normally lay up to.

I have been using my unit for a few months now andI have added tons of things on the courses that I play the most. I just played one round and while I played I marked the points I felt necessary.

Sounds simple enough, so to get my shot distance, I just hit a button to mark the spot I took my shot from, then again when I get to my ball? Also, how many waypoints are you able to save per hole?

Basically, yeah. All you do is hit the shot button from where you hit your shot and then march on to where your ball lays and as you move it will update with the yardage and once you arrive at your ball you will have how far your shot traveled. You only have to hit the shot button once.

As for the waypoints, on the Neo you can add 4 points per hole. It doesn't sound like a lot, but when I started updating my home course I found that there weren't a lot of points I needed to add on holes.

Technically, you have to hit the Shot button three times: Once to place the Neo in shot mode, once again to mark where you are hitting from.  At this point, it will update distance as you walk to your ball--at which point you hit the Shot button again to freeze the distance.  Then you hit another button to get out of shot mode.

All in all, lots of button pushing--but it's still a really neat feature, and it still displays distance to Center of green while in shot mode.

I love this unit. Performs as advertised. Its standout features are the compact size and durability. Size- my friend has a laser range finder and he has to put it back in the cart after he checks due to fragility and size. My iGolf is always on my belt. Durability- I have no worries tossing the iGolf to a friend so he can walk to his ball.

There was concern about the Neo's belt clip earlier in this thread. I've used it for several rounds and it has never fallen out. No need to buy a different case, IMO. :clapping:

I received a iGolf neo for Fathers Day and took it out fot the first time to the TPC at River Highlands (Cromwell, CT) for the 2008 Travelers Championship yesterday since I was anxious to try it out. I downloaded the TPC_at_River_Highlands.glf file and syncronized it with my iGolf neo. When I arrived at the course I turned on the unit, loaded the course & picked the hole we were viewing from the ropeline. All I could get was a 9999 yard reading. I checked the satellite screen and I had acquired 8 with a strong signal. I tried this on several different holes with the same results. I turned the unit off/on hoping a "re-boot" might help but to no avail.

This morning I went to my home course Timberlin (Berlin, CT) and the unit performed as I expected. Is there any chance that with all the PGA scorekeeping & communication equipment on the TPC course I may have been blocked out? I will be playing the TPC course in a couple of weeks and wanted to be ready.

Does anyone have a link for the recommended labels used for fairway hazards with the Neo and Caddie II? I don't see one on their website or in the online user manual. I saw a link on one of these threads some time ago, but can not find it. Thanks.

If you are talking about the abbreviations used for custom points, just go to the Igolf website, help, support and choose the model you are looking for. Just scroll through the questions until you find what you need. Using the Neo Sync icon took me right to the website.

I have been considering getting the Igolf Neo. It seems like the most sensible Golf GPS device out there, so I ran a search of every golf course I could think of ever playing in the area and on any trips. I only came across 3 I couldn't find, but when I searched again for one of them excluding the "golf course" in the search it came up. I think I"m going to pull the trigger and but one. Any update on the latest deals or best prices on these? Do you think it's better to order directly from www.igolf.com ?

Best deal I know of is at www.intheholegolf.com using the coupon code FGI10.  10% off and free shipping.  Not sure if the coupon still works....

No problem. Just ordered it myself along with lots of other fun stuff. It was a great battle with my inner geek to not get something with the intelligreen or green zense that costs a lot more. I just figure that a) if i'm far enough off line to need it I probably have no business going for anything but the middle and b) most greens have at least 5-7 yds of wiggle room so middle minus 5 and I'm safe enough for my game. If I could control the difference and aim dead perfect between 118 and 120 I'd be a pro. Plus, in a year or two I'm sure we'll have a super product that renders the $450 ones today obsolete. Since bushnell's in the gps game now, how long until the combo gps laser unit or at least everyone carrying both? You know it's coming, I mean just look at the size of the neo and v2 tour. Combined they would rule the world!! Or buy the neo and somehow justify the scout 1000 after rebate. That's about $360 (plus $35 for the 100 courses you may play this year) for the best of both worlds. Laser the tree, GPS mark the tree, and hit the shot fat. What a game. :partytime2:

Just got back from my 1st round w/ the neo - wow!!! (or should I say "whoa..!")

Wish I could say it saved me strokes, but that's my own fault :drinks:

However, it DID definitely help me make some good club choices and approach shots. I got a nice big grin when I stood on sprinkler heads and my neo yardage matched the one under my feet!

When I get a chance on my regular course, I"m going to spend time remapping a bunch of points, because it seemed like some of them were oddly-defined (but I attributed this to an odd definition of the point, like the "front" of the green wasn't defined where I would define it, because like I said, the neo was 1.000 for matching sprinkler heads)

Now I gotta stop slicing so much!black%20eye.gif

Great purchase, I recommend this to anyone without hesitation

On the topic of cases, I'm going to try to find something that lets you use it while in the case (I found one of the ones that was made in China for $.30 and sold for $9.99...would have worked ok - a case for a thick bar phone circa 1998-2000...but no sale).

May have just made a find (or 2!!), which MAY allow use while in the case, but haven't seen them in person

Body Glove -Universal- Music phone cases- SCUBA

Body Glove -Universal - music phone cases - CARGO

*both feature an elastic arm band (which could conceivably be wrapped vertically around one's belt)

here are the neo's dimensions: 1.75" x 3.25" x .75"

The SCUBA photo depicts a blackberry (pearl, as far as I can tell)- dimensions of the blackberry: 2.0" x 4.2" x 0.6" (close!!)

*The CARGO photo shows my exact model cell phone in the cargo case. The neo is about 0.5" shorter length-wise than my phone, (but essentially identical thicknesses and widths) the screens are comparable, but the neo screen is smaller, which is good in this case because the screen won't be obscured.

--> based on what I can tell, I'm going to guess SCUBA universal musicphone case is the winner because the case-window is wide, to the edge which would allow you to see the button-labels. The only remaining question is how it will work to hit the buttons through the edge-material OR cut a tiny hole for each button? The hunt is on, whoever gets one in their hands first -wins!

alternately, there's the more-expensive DLO action-jacket for the iphone, but the iphone is wider and taller of course.
