It is currently set to last Reply.  I am not sure what you are seeing.  Please provide screenshots with arrows.

I'm having the same issue, but in reverse. When I click on a thread, I'm taken to the very last post, even if I haven't read all the prior posts in the thread.

Then I go to page 10, Equipment Forum and find the two threads listed in the pic below as before with the "PXG Hybrid" with a last post of July 8, and the thread below that "better 3.5/4 wood..." with a last post of July 10....should not that one be before the July 8th thread?

My initial post was with the "sort by" function unchanged from default of "recently updated".

And that caused the same result.

I think you're misstating the issue.

 

The sort is working just fine (and BTW, I believe everybody's "default" was set up the same - what we're used to).

 

It's the message "Last Post July 24", that is incorrect. Probably a function of the copy over but nothing to get too worked up over since the sorting IS correct.

 

It ALSO appears that each forum has its own "Sort by". Most(?) are set to "Last Updated". You've stumbled onto a couple with "Custom", HOWEVER, it seems as thought the "custom" sort is also by "Last Updated". I'm guessing different people were tasked with setting up different forums. So, same(?) sort, different way of doing it.

Unfortunately the posts did NOT get sorted correctly.

This all started when I was looking for this THREAD so I could add some pics that were requested.  The last post by "GUEST" was Aug 11 which is correct as I was monitoring the Thread..."Tiger Woods 2019 Taylormade irons...P7TW"  (can't post link as I get an error message?)

 

Guess what...that Thread was no where to be found in the first 80 pages (I looked through all 80!....turns out it was on Page 119)).  Why? Because it was sorted incorrectly by the Initial post date, January 4, 2019....not the last date Aug 11th.

 

BigDaddy then posted as he had it linked and could find it and it came back to the first page, where I then added the pics.

 

I was also monitoring the GPS, Rangefinder Thread posted above and it's Last Post is correct and is sorted incorrectly as shown.

 

Hope they get the sorting corrected!

However you want to label "the reason" (which BirdieBob accurately described what is happening regardless), it is causing active threads to be buried and lost because the original post was a long time ago.

 

Take the Snell Golf Ball thread. It is 172 pages long with the most recent reply on August 11th. It is currently on page 70 of the Golf Ball forum because the original post was from 2015. Nobody will find these ever again. Can't search, can't look at our old post history. Only had this example handy from Chrome autofilling the URL when I typed in Snell.

 

I fully understand that the migration screwed up the dates and there might not be anything to be done about it, but that doesnt make it any less valid an issue and it kinda sucks.

"did NOT" as in when you FIRST looked ? How about now ? "Hope they get the sorting corrected" ? Any sorts not working now ?

 

I looked at your "custom sort" post and, in the SHADED area" all the titles showing are sorted by "last date".

 

In the OTHER picture they're ALL the same day/time so I can't possibly have any idea whether they're sorted correctly or not. That said, you DID say Page 10 and "last Wednesday" the board wasn't even post-able although it was readable.

 

Have you noticed the following announcement on the top of all the "Activity" page links ? I don't start a lot of threads but I do start some.

 

Getting all the databases copied over, all the "pointers" correct, etc. takes a fair bit of time, especially on a board this large. They decided to open up the board before all these items were completed.

You were posting the same time I was.

 

Take a look at the message in the blue box. "Search index is currently processing".

 

Pretty much everything is searching. Even just listing a forum, even looking at a specific thread.

 

I searched for "Snell" and I got 5 threads; all posted to today. Obviously there is a lot more. The dates for anything from the old board need to be properly (re-)calculated for the new board.

 

Hopefully there will be a message to the membership when the indices are all considered correct.

Can they be? It is looking like they are all currently "dated" for the exact time when they were actually migrated. In the example of the Snell thread, Wednesday at 12:56pm. If you go up the page you'll see the migration progression by the minute. 12:57... 12:58...

 

If that can actually be corrected then the problem should sort out itself.

I'm fairly sure they CAN be. WILL they be ? Don't know but I would think "Yes". Then again, I've never seen that Vanilla POG before so who knows how they format their dates.

 

That said, there are only a certain number of ways a date can be formatted and I would think Invision (THIS board) has encountered pretty much every format before - so I wouldn't expect them to have a problem converting the Vanilla dates to their own.

Yes, exactly what I am seeing also....thanks for the verification of my findings.

You will note that the Last Post of that Snell Thread was in fact Aug 11....the Thread just before that one has a Last Post of Feb 3, 2015!

Proof the relisted Threads are sorted by "initial Thread date" NOT Last Post Date.

 

Of course the Sorting update is only to develop a Search database so Threads can be searched and found....has nothing to do with the current incorrect listing of the Threads.

Look to the right there in my screenshot, see where it says "Wednesday at 12:56pm" (or in your screenshot where it says 10:32am)? That is what the forum thinks is the last reply date. It is actually the time that the thread was migrated (copied) from the old forum. That's what nsxguy and I were discussing in the last few replies. 

 

So you are 100% correct in identifying a problem, but nsxguy was also correct when he said sorting is "technically" working. It is sorting by that date/time, and the reason that it goes by INITIAL POST DATE is due to the fact that the migration copied everything in order of old -> new. Initial post date might even be the "second" sorting option when the times are identical. That is also why new replies now are correctly bumped to the top, because the new reply fixes that first date.

 

Hopefully that clarifies ? In order to fix the problem we need those dates fixed, not sorting fixed.

Exactly, and why I brought this to the attention of GolfWRX to see if it could be fixed.

The sorting was incorrectly done (wrong date used) and relisted incorrectly as a result when the new forum was established.
