ZU85 2 iron ball position

Hi all

 

I realize that everybody's swing is different, but I'm trying to dial in one of these and am hitting a flare out to the right most times. Anybody have experience of dialling it in? Previously had Srixon Z45 utility but am guessing the 2 iron would be a more driver-like ball position. Help please - new to driving irons!

Good morning! I can speak only to my experience, but I'm new to driving irons too. I'm working a 2i into my game and I have had the most success setting up like a mid-iron. When I start to play it too far forward I launch it higher and lose control a bit. I'm using it more for trajectory control than for pure distance, so playing it closer to center keeps it down. Still learning, though!

I play mine like any other long iron.  A little more forward, but not driver position forward.  I like it that I can also play it back and keep the trajectory down.  Love mine.  It has saved me a lot of grief off the tee.

Move it to middle of your stance then adjust when find flight and path you want. I play mine like a 7 iron dead center with a narrow stance.

Trial and error, but in general leaving it out to the right may indicate that the ball is too far back in your stance.

What is your distance like then? I would think that would cut down on it.

As long as you come in shallow and not steep its fine I hit my 17’ consistently 230-235 hitting from the middle

this is what I would suggest and couldn’t say it any better.  Start there and experiment at the range moving it around til you find the right spot for YOU. Good luck.

Play it just forward of center and swing like it's an iron because.... it is.

Could it be you’re subconsciously getting the face more open than usual on the way back to compensate for a lack of loft?
 

Might be worth getting yourself on video to check that something like wrist angles isn’t the issue. if you have a tendency to stall flip flares and blocks would be what I’d expect to see as if you did flip you’d just smother it into the ground 10 yards in front of you.
