Lower (mid) Trajectory Hybrid Shaft

Hey guys,

I have an old Callaway X2 Hot 3 Hybrid with an Aldila Blue NXT (I’m guessing) shaft... it’s the OEM shaft the hybrids were shipped with.

the ball flight when tee’d up is ridiculously high. We play at a course that has a lot of wind, and on some of the longer par 3’s the ball gets toss around when it’s up in the stratosphere.

I’m looking to reshaft with a hybrid shaft that helps promote a lower ball flight.  Not too low, as I still want drop and stop out of it... but not to the moon and back.

I also don’t want to spend $250 Cad. I’ve been looking at the Aldila Tour Green NXT Gen MLT.  Says it’s a lower ball flight as compared to the Blue cousin.   Plus it’s $50 ish at Golfworks.ca

Any other suggestions?

thanks

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.  I'm going to give the Aldila Tour Green a run.  Won't know much until spring unfortunately.  My final round of the season is Friday :(.  Snow is here and coming.

Use some foot powder spray to check your impact position when the ball is teed up compared to off the deck.   If you get good flight off the deck but too high when teed up, the problem is likely the face impact or swing and chances are a shaft change wont help.   If the impact is higher on the face when teed up that that's the core problem you need to address someone (adjust tee height or set-up).

But there are always exceptions so you'll never know for sure until you try.   Just understand that the money you put into the new shaft may not help the problem.

More mid than low and probably between the blue and green but I've been dabbling with an Aldila Rogue Black at a heavier weight (105g) which has been very good and it's pretty cheap. Steel at a shorter length is also an option if you want to lower flight, but likely to lose some distance (only slightly). I play steel right now and love it, but thinking the Aldila Rogue may give me a touch more distance if I need it for certain courses/club gapping with my fairway woods depending on the setup I go for on different rounds. Steel is definitely more accurate for me.

Like Stuart mentioned, it may be impact.

Maybe a shaft change could help, something with a bit more weight could give you better impact, creating a better dynamic loft  through the ball. I find the weight of a club to be most important when it comes to strike. I like my hybrid shaft above 100 grams and above D4.......D5+

You may be able to throw some lead tape below the grip to get a heavier overall weight, and play with swing weight as well. It has brought me much succes 👍

I have a Modus 105 in 2 of mine, but there are other shafts that are made for irons rather than hybrids that may work for you. The only hybrid shaft I have that was intended for hybrids is a Tensei white that’s around 100 grams. The other 2 are Modus 105 steel......... perhaps a Steelfiber, Recoil, Tensei silver , MMT, ..........etc
