1990s as Golden Years for modern Golf publishing?

It dawns on me today that it seems the 90s are a golden era for golf books:  look at all these published within just a few years of each other:  Penick's Little Red Book (1992), Rotella's Golf is Not a Game of Perfect (1995) Pelz's Short Game Bible (1999), Floyd's The Elements of Scoring (1998).    And, if we stretch the 90s out to 2001, we have Tiger's How I Play Golf.  

 

So many good books, published all right together.

The 90s aren’t 2001. Penick’s and Rotella’s are classics for sure but disagree looking to the 90s is any guarantee of the best golf reading. 

1960s gave us many greats including The Bogey Man by George Plimpton and Jack’s The Greatest Game Of All. Two stand alone classics. 
 

Last 10 years we’ve gotten Dodson’s American Triumvirate, Scott’s Ben Hogan, Tom Morris Of St. Andrews. Decade before that great books from Dodson and Mark Frost. 
 

Any of the above more seminal and integral to golf history than Floyd’s short game book (which I love) or the mad scientist’s short game bible. 
 

I’m just going off the top of my head but there have been great golf books through history —- more recent decades just give us a lot MORE golf books, have to look for the great ones. 
 

Ouimet’s A Game Of Golf from 1932 is worth any random group of crap golf books published in the last 30 years.

I consider Jack Nicklaus' "Golf My Way" copyright 1974 to be the best golf instruction book ever written.

I know the focus so far has been on books, but I’d argue that The Golfer’s Journal is the gold standard of golf periodicals.  Instead of one-off swing tips and sponsored equipment “reviews”, it captures more of the soul of golf.  At least for core golfers.  
 

Will it shift other magazines and create a Golden Age for golf periodicals?  (I don’t think there has been one yet.) No clue.  But I hope so.
