Amateur Tournaments, age and forward tees

Just curious why the age for forward tees is 60 at most amateur tournaments/scrambles?

 

The Champions Tour starts at age 50 and has on average 500 yds less distance versus the regular tour.  It seems inconsistent.

Due to the international flavor of the Champions Tour, they are on the metric system when it comes to age.

The tour is different IMO, requires a lot more physical ability than Amateur club level golf. 

 

You can easily be 55 and be the best player in your country club. Not really possible on the PGA tour. Heck one of the best mid-amateur golfers in Canada was crushing guys into his 60s

I’ve never seen an amateur tournament split tees by age.  Usually they are done by flight/ hcp, regardless of age.

 

Now, scrambles are a different story...but I’ve never paid too much attention to a format where cheating is rampant and you can buy mulligans.

UK events all focused on more forward tees until your get to inter-county games. English Seniors was played on my home course and they used the white tees at 6300. Same tees for all age brackets. Biggest issue for me, when I hit 55, is so many events are now 4bbb Stableford. Virtually no senior singles as "too difficult".
