Vegas in Mid May

Looking to play 3 rounds in Vegas, May 17-19. How are the course conditions that time of year?

We have 6 players and the indexes range from +3 to the highest at .8.  We have 3 former D1 players in the group and all players have considerable tournament experience.

So, what I’m saying is we’re looking for a good test of golf.

Here are the ideas being talked about.

17th: Paiute  - Wolf, maybe Snow Mtn.

18th: Wolf Creek

19th: Bali Hai, couple guys just want to play it. Also, considering TPC Vegas

Any other suggestions?

Looking to keep it in the price range of the courses above.

I’ve played Dragonridge and Rio Secco before, how does this rotation compare?

Thanks

You need to call the courses direct to find the status.  They could be in aeration/overseed and be recovered, in terrible shape or even closed.

Maybe search for a schedule online - it my be posted somewhere.

If you are playing in Mesquite and have played Wolf Creek before (it's a must play, at least once) I'd recommend Conestoga. It was in the best condition of all the Mesquite courses I played a couple weeks ago.

I'd also look into Coyote Springs north of Vegas. When we played it looked as if they had punched their greens about a week prior.  Nicklaus course without a clubhouse. Range and practice green are top notch. It's in the middle of nowhere.

Cascata is a fairly decent test of golf.  Lots of elevation change and at times very quick greens.  Not in the price range listed, but better than Wolf Creek architecturally by a wide margin.  Considering travel cost you may be in the same ballpark.  Paiute ticks all the boxes, Bali Hai when I played a few years ago is one of the few courses I felt was way overpriced (This on the same trip I played Cascata and Shadow Creek).  Not sure the cost now.  Wolf Creek is not a hard course by any stretch.  Lots of up and down and extremely scenic, but a stern test of golf it is not.  All that said it is definitely worth going to at least once.  If you could swing it I would substitute Bali Hai with cascata.  It is a much much better course and setting.

Edit:  If you have Caesars Status you can get a discount at Cascata.  Bali Hai looks to be in the mid $200 for greens fees.

Agree with this.  Went up last summer and played WC, Rio Secco, and Cascata.  Cascata was far and away my favorite.  Very cool range too - hit a little uphill straight at the mountain.  A big range of Bighorns wandering around out at the end, and their service level is top notch.  Note that caddy is required so add that to your cost.
