I have owned both MT and DX Tourney irons. I used to think that the DX’s were more entry level and less cost, and they may have been. But I have also grown to think they were more forgiving kinda of early game improvement irons.

DX were certainly not entry level when they came out.  They were pro line.

In his book Toney Penna talks about them being offered in the MacGregor line for a different experience than the MTs. F0A34D2B-68A0-44FB-8F45-ADD7A7F382DE.jpeg.f9cbb7b2a1500538ad064030e2c2494c.jpeg0A6ECB68-A7DE-4082-AF2F-F6152A6B1EC4.jpeg.e2643622a363e44b1446db1e78f271ac.jpeg82ACDBCF-A178-4E6C-A0CA-B4EC6B953285.jpeg.7552f134a9b986cd36be80f41867cbd6.jpeg

That's really good info.  Do you know if this was the thought process for these three models through all years and models of production?  This is different than what I've heard in the past.  I heard that MT was for better players and DX was for casual players.  But this definitely reverses that.

That I don't know and I should point out that that book is copyrighted 1965 So those would be early DX models Toney is talking about.

I have a set of '64s coming to be from eBay can't wait to compare them to my '64 Tourneys.

I love my 1964 DX's. Great irons. I finally tracked down a set of 1961 Tourney irons that I played in high school. Going to get them re-gripped and I think I finally am done collecting clubs.

I have a set of 65 DX2's and a set of 67 MT's.  I have never played them but I've hit both into the simulator.   I had better results with the MT's than the DX's.  At the time I assumed that it was due to my swing inconsistencies, but maybe there is some design involved.
