I thought that the Pin Seekers were not legal by USGA???

 

As long as they don't have slope they are OK.

Oh...I have never looked through one before and did not know that they offered slope. I am still in shock that they are allowing GPS now.

Theirs Pinkseeker which gives slope, and Pinseeker Tournament Edition which does not. Pinseeker is for the die-hard golfer, but the Tournament version can be played in a tour.

Yardage devices are not allowed on tour in PGA tournament play. They are only used in practice rounds.

Yardage measuring devices that don't measure slope such as the tournament edition Pinseeker or the sky caddy are legal per USGA rules. However, it is up to each 'ruling body' whether or not they choose to allow them for play or not. For example, lasers are allowed on the Tarheel Tour, but not the Gateway tour or Hooters Tour. PGA and nationwide is still a No for the time being. Personally since the USGA has made their ruling, i think it would speed up the pace of play considerably in tournament golf if they were made legal top to bottom.

It's a practice round and nearly all the pros use them in their practice rounds but they put them away for actual tournament rounds.

I am sure $$ were a factor, but if you look at it at the moment he is basically now top dog at Adams, he was part of a large cast at Nike with Tiger, KJ, Ames, Cink, Chad, Campbell, Immelman etc. There is only him and Badds as topline players on the staff and a few guys just stepped up from the Nationwide (Gainey etc).

 

He has had 3 top 3 finishes and a tied 37 out of four starts, so the clubs don't seem to be hurting his game too much, even if it is still early days.

 

His mouthing off about Tiger probably didnt do much for the atmosphere over in the Nike trailer either, even if Nike or Tiger probably didn't have anything to do with his moving on.

 

The attached thread tends to indicate that the Adams tour staff are doing a pretty good job and looking after their smallish staff pretty well- Rory particularly

Rory plays out of my club in Texas and it's my understanding that it was a little of money and a lot of Nike. Nike treated him horribly, even to the point that he would sometimes have to buy balls before going to a tournament because he wasn't sure if they would remember to give him balls that week. He's a heck of a nice guy and will play with anyone, like 3 senior ladies who can't get the ball to the fairway.

 

I've always enjoyed watching him play and feel his honest and candor nature is a great relief from all these short coached conversations you seem to get out of professional athletes these days

What is the process of a pro playing with a company's line of products? Do they sign a contract for a period of time ie. 5 years and when the time is up, they become essentially free agents and can either re-sign or become a free agent and sign with another company? Would Adams have come after Rory? Or did he go looking for them and see what they were offering vs other companies prior to signing.

 

Why did Els join with Callaway? Why did Howell III go to Bridgestone - I still think of him as a Callaway player still.

 

Does Taylor Made / Adidas have the biggest market of tour players playing their equipment?
