Modus 105s vs 105x

Looking at the ZX5s irons. For Lefties they don't have stiff an option on their site at the moment. Curious if anyone has felt the difference between the two shafts?

As now I play True temper XP 95 S300. 6 iron goes about 185 yards.  Curious if it would be too big of a jump to X.

not in 105 x.  mizuno had my 6 iron speed at 89mph and this shaft was better than 105s for me

First of all, whether a jump is too big or not is really dependent on how your swing responds to the change in feel.  Some people can swing a wide range of stiffness profiles with no problems while others can be very particular.

 

But that said, most of the Nippons (especially the 105's) do tend to be relatively soft to flex compared to most other OEM's so that "jump" will be a lot less than if you had to jump up to x-flex in the xp's.   The 105 Stiff would have been making a jump softer than the xp95's in stiff while the x-stiffs are a small jump up in stiffness.   Which jump would be better for you is not something anyone here can answer. The only way to tell for sure would be to do some testing.

 

But again, for that distance with a 6 iron and no other data to go on (swing speed or distance really isn't a reliable indicator), I would tend to lean to going up to the x-flex as a better potential option.

Thanks for the insight, agreed testing is the only way to know for sure. Wanted people's initial thoughts. For my understanding technically my xp's are stiffer than modus 105s but lighter? And the Xs are the stiffest.

It can be a bit more complicated than that but that's a rough approximation.

I agree with @Stuart_G on this.  Currently gaming Modus 120X.   I find them much closer to S300/S400, than the X100 in my prior irons.

Piggy backing on this topic. currently playing Modus 105 Stiff in my irons but need to order a 5 iron now to fit the gapping. A 5 hybrid just didn't work for me. Problem is, to get a 105 Stiff could take months to arrive. However, 105 X-stiff is in stock.  If I order the 5 iron in 105 X-stiff and soft step it, would it play similar to my 105 stiffs?

No, not similar at all.  1x soft stepping is rarely even noticeable for ams.

 

And anyways, you'd need to order a 4i shaft for the 5i in order to soft step it.   All Modus are butt cut only.    A 3i shaft in the 5i (soft stepped x2) might be a bit closer but still not really similar.  Whether or not it's close enough is impossible for anyone else to tell you.

Modus 105 X is a bit heavier than 105 s 112 grams vs 106 grams weather that will have more of a bearing on your swing than shaft flex testing is the only real way to find out
