It all depended on the location and situation.  Redneck bar joints shooting pool you'd just order a Genny.  Out in the Plattsburgh State bars you'd order a Molson or Michelob.  Playing poker in a basement might mean Genny Cream or Bud.  If someone made a beer run it would be Brador or Laurentide. 

In looking back brand loyalty wasn't prevalent...if it was cold was key.

Oakland Hills Country Club suffered a devasting fire this morning.  Imagine all that was lost...luckily no deaths or injuries reported.

Blustery and 62 degrees so Mrs NCL and I walked 5.5 miles and played 18 yesterday at Occoneechee.  Pace of play wasn't great so we played the front twice assuring us of playing 18 before dark.  Mixed tees around 5550,  8-14 fairways with only 1 unplayable, 33 putts but the scorecard doesn't lie: 51-50=101.  No true blow-ups but 5 7's and it seemed I managed to screw-up somewhere on every hole.  Drives off the fairway, punchouts off trees, thin approaches, fat chips, tentative putts (my wife says "skeerd")...I just didn't have a good day.  Did par the Par 3 8th (132 yards) twice and parred 18 (the 9th) but the damage was done.

Looking forward to the next time out to bury the demons!  I know I'm better than the way I played yesterday.

 My animals get treated to special things. Yesterday I took my three cows to the beauty salon. Polly, Karen, and Francis have never looked better. 😃

No golf rust is allowed to accumulate during the winter at your house. Eight months pregnant you say? wow.   Cars can freeze outside to allow golf swings all winter.  Man's got his priorities straight according to me.

Thanks NCL for posting the first recap of the new thread. I will be doing recaps over here as well, but am going to make an effort to produce a more condensed version. I won't be as detailed.

I just read RS's post showing his fine winter set up for golf. It is good to see there's still passion for a bunch of us as we try to stay with it during the cold off-season.

Isn't it every time Adam Scott is in the mix at Rivera? Past winner in 2020 we know, but this course must just fit his eye best.

Did any of you give him some consideration?  I didn't.

Just wow...I worked security there for the US Senior Open in July 1991.  I had never been to a pro tourney before and the course was the most beautiful and the fastest I had ever seen.  I was on-course and allowed basically anywhere but I fell into the "job" of walking/escorting Mrs. Gary Player during Round 1.  She was very polite and was only mildly interested in what her husband was doing.  She just wanted a good spot and not to be jostled.

I only had access to a limited inside area but the clubhouse I could see was regal and very "old-money".  it is a sad loss but hopefully some memorabilia could be saved and I'm thankful no lives were lost.

I sure did. He was in my lineup but switch him out with Zalitoris last second. Scott is my 2nd backup though.

Made it home just in time to drop my girls off at the gym and take my wife to The Meting Pot. We haven’t been since we had kids. That was always our spot. We love the atmosphere. It’s not for everyone, but we love it.

These photos were taken when I arrived at 6:45 AM this morning. It was 23* with a breeze. Here we see another 100 year old Donald Ross designed course and also a 100 year old clubhouse just like one that burned down in Bloomfield Hills, MI. this week . Outside of the fact that it took place in my hometown, the burning down of the Oakland Hills clubhouse greatly saddened me. I feel for the staff that I am sure took pride in working inside such a historic building. I also work in one and never tire of the history that is all around me. I also feel for the couples that had their wedding's scheduled for this spring, summer, and fall abruptly get canceled. They all have money and can easily shift gears, but still.

 

We had 55 players today on the tee sheet.

The wind was howling just like yesterday at 15-30 mph. Sun was out. Long frost delay, and 24 golfers  (the earliest tee times) cancelled. The first group went off in 39* temperatures. It was 46* when I just left. It was good to see and talk with some players. It was mostly the young buck sticks that went out today. This winter warrior would have taken a hard pass on playing either day. I do cold, but not that windy cold crud. I can hear P3P and P48 groaning knowing that would be an average day on the links in Scotland or Ireland and ya just get on with it.    😄 

I took a day off last week (51*) and managed to take care of 3 members in a battle to the end. The help was victorious. 🏌️‍♂️⚡  I shot a 79.  BFCC and  CCA are the two toughest courses I play. Any time I break 80 at either one I experience golf joy.
