Played yesterday with Mrs NCL at Umstead Pines in Durham.  Parly sunny, breezy, and 62 degrees at our 1pm tee-off.  Rode (GPS carts!), 3:50 minute round with a 1:40 front and a 2:10 back.  The foursome of 60-something men we met on the 10th tee rudely would not let us play through even though there was no one ahead of them.  I just don't understand their reasoning, but both their etiquette and their talent were sorely lacking.   

Played white tees at 6,063 on the card but I felt the tees were up on most holes so I would guess 5900 was closer to the truth.  Shot a 45-49=94 with 35 putts, 13 of 14 fairways hit, zero lost balls, and no penalty strokes.   Mrs NCL also played all 18 with one ball: a green Maxfli Tour CG! 

My worst hole was a snowman on the 10th as I was seething after watching the clown show in front of us as they zig-zagged their way down the fairway even though carts were supposed to be 90 degrees.  Then on the green each lined up their putts as if The Golf Channel was broadcasting their match (I however saw no cameras).  I realize I should not let those in front of me ruin my day and I did calm down and slowed our pace but we were still forced to watch most of their shots of which there were many.  We surmised that they were members and we were just the wretched unwashed and they had to share the course with us but they did not have to show us any courtesy.  May the fleas of a thousand camels reproduce in their golf bags!

We played The Challenge in Graham, NC yesterday with 77 degrees, 10-15 mph winds and a packed tee sheet (168 golfers).  11-14 fairways hit, 36 putts and a bad score of 53-54=107.   White tees at 5755 68.3/124.  Lost 4 balls (none off the driver) and made some sloppy mistakes both mentally and physically.  Really looking forward to the fairways growing in and hitting off some green grass!  Highlight of the day was the BBQ sandwich from Smithfield's on the way home. 

 

This was not my sandwich but a pic I pulled from a review.  Mine looked very similar...Yummy!

At the Palmer Invitational the cut line has moved a stroke higher twice (+2 and now +3) this afternoon. I am happy it did as I have two horses hanging right at +1.  It's a nail biter Friday again for the commish as he tries once again to dodge MC's.

That is a good question, and the answer is easy:  No!  BBQ was never popular in the North Country and I truthfully never experienced that cuisine until moving down to NC in 2008!  Now I love it!
